This week we had fun exploring optical illusion art. Using repeated line and colour the children were amazed to see how easy it is to create a piece of art that tricks the eye!
Some took inspiration from Mondrian, while others chose the tumbling tunnel.
The results were really effective and despite the heat the kids had a great time exploring art from the 1960s! Well done everyone! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We have been working on a project for the last couple of weeks, which I’m sure many Dads will have been happy to receive today!
We carved out the body shape of our fish using floral foam. The fins were then secured using cocktail sticks before being covered in paper mache. The kids loved getting messy and they were just about dry in time before we added the decorative layer a week later!
Using decoupage paper they worked really hard to cover their fish adding plenty of detail.
Again, all individual and all absolutely amazing!!
Well done guys, great job!

Happy Father’s Day to all our Primart Dads 💙

Printing with washable markers was a fun way to end the term!
Using a sharp pencil, the kids carved their polystyrene sheet to create a poster grid. They then coloured a tile at a time with the markers, before spraying with water and applying to paper.
There was lots to think about with each step and the results of each printed tile varied depending on how much marker, water or pressure was applied. And that was in addition to carving and printing mirrored letters! Who knew a capital E could be so troublesome! 🤪
We soon got the hang of it though and had great fun experimenting!

Happy half term everyone! 🥰

This week it was all about proportion!
The kids got really creative with this one! Using pastels, charcoal and an adjustable mannequin they had great fun experimenting with different positions.
Some really interesting poses… both on paper and in person! Great session with lots of fun! 🤩

We have had a busy few weeks at Primart looking at the artist Kimmy Cantrell for our inspiration this time.
We looked at how he sculpts his masks using asymmetry as a starting point and always finishing with his trademark red lips!
The kids didn’t disappoint with their take on his work and I think they look so bright and colourful!
As always, love how they all came out so different when the starting point was just a ball of air dry clay each!
How lucky am I to work with this talented bunch! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

This week we have been busy recreating Panama Molas! We looked at how the native Guna women spend 60-80 hours making their vibrant, colourful fabric panels, using the reverse appliqué technique. The designs range from symbols of Mother Nature, including reptiles, birds, sealife, animals and flowers as well as geometric and abstract patterns.

To make our version of the Mola (translating to ‘shirt’) we used 4 sheets of contrasting coloured card. Once we had drawn, cut out and layered our symbol using 3 of the colours we mounted it onto our background sheet. The children then cut leaves and shapes out of the background and used their scrap pieces to fill in the gaps from behind. Finally they decorated their animals.

Simple… yet so effective! Love how these turned out! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Looking at line, shape and colour we were able to add some 3D to our eggs and bunnies at Primart this week! 🐰 I wonder how many more of these are going to be created at home!

It’s been a busy few weeks! Thank you to all the children at Primart for their enthusiasm and creativity, look forward to more fun next term!

Happy Easter everyone! 🐣

We’ve been keeping our latest project a secret as some lucky Mums, Grandmas and Aunties will be receiving these today!

Taking our inspiration from the very talented Australian artist Julia and her amazing company Summer Svenson, the children used an empty tape roll, a balloon and a paper cup to create their vases. They then layered over the top with Modroc, which we left to harden before popping the balloons!

The children had great fun designing their pots using bands of colour before adding their patterns on in white acrylic. The final job was to add the last layer of colour to really make them pop!

I really enjoyed the journey we went on making these. I love the fact that each one started out the same, yet they all looked so different in the end!

Happy Mother’s Day ladies! 🌷 🏺 ❤️

We had a go at recreating the work of Keith Haring at Primart this week and the results were really fun!
The children chose which iconic image they wanted to do, then using black tape on acetate they traced the iconic outlines of his characters and symbols. Using oil pastel to add a pop of colour to the background, they created their very own version of a Haring!

Pop art and street art combined… Awesome work Primarters! Love these ❤️

There were lots of happy faces this week at Primart! So rewarding to hear the children say they love their work and even better that they enjoy the journey to reach the outcome!

This week we started by using tissue and patterned paper to create our collage backgrounds. The children thought carefully about colour, shape and texture. They then chose an animal to transpose onto their background by rubbing a black oil pastel on the back. After flipping it over and tracing as much detail as they could they finished with a black outline!

Simple idea but stunning results which pop with colour! Well done again Primarters, super job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
