On International Town Criers Day, Monday 14th July, we look back at a wonderful day in Bromsgrove for the National Championship of the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers, on Saturday 14th June 2025.

These photos by Tony Slade take us through the day, from the parade with Bromsgrove Court Leet, round one outside Destination Bromsgrove to Bromsgrove Society funded lunch in the High Street. They also show all the criers in action in the morning, and afternoon at Avoncroft Museum following the trip on the vintage Midland Red Bus thanks to Transport Museum Wythall. Finally the awarding of prizes by Bromsgrove Court Leet Bailiff Mark Robinson, Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council Cllr. Samuel Evans and Bradley Thomas MP

What a wonderful day we had showcasing our fabulous town, High Street and Museums. Thanks to all our sponsors and supporters.

Thank you for joining us Martin 😍

Shrewsbury Town Crier Martin Wood proudly represented our town at the National Championships in Bromsgrove this weekend! Competing among 25 criers—including one from Australia—Martin delivered two powerful cries: one celebrating Shrewsbury’s rich history, and another on the importance of museums.

Dressed in his unmistakable red and blue uniform, Martin brought his signature booming voice to the event. While the top title went elsewhere, Martin was proud to take part, saying, “It’s always a thrill to represent Shrewsbury and stand shoulder to shoulder—well, a little taller than most!—with fellow criers.”

A true ambassador for our town, 7ft 2" tall Martin celebrated 40 years as Shrewsbury’s official Town Crier last year with an exhibition at Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery and continues to honour the traditions and spirit of Shrewsbury wherever he goes!
