Today marks my 21st anniversary - the day I lost my leg. The day when everything changed for me.
Up to this day in 2004 I was a normal two legged racer, a DJ who was building some momentum in Bristol and generally a cheeky 24 year old loving life.
In a split second a head on crash with a car changed everything, and due to not being knocked out, a day that has left several "interesting" images burned into my psyche.
For those who knew me before 'Rob' was born, the last 2 decades have been a period of rebuilding, breaking down, rebuilding and then rebuilding some more.
Rob Ótico was only born a few years ago thanks to the amazing work by who literally and physically rebuilt me, and my constant love of dance music has led me to the decks again.
Since arriving home after the latest edition of Ozora Festival official a couple of weeks ago, a new sense of vigor is building and a new determination to give the next 12 months everything I have to try and break through.
Life has taught me you never know what's ahead, but it's up to you how you respond. And being the stubborn fu***rs I am, I'm going to keep going head first through walls until I achieve my dream.
Everything is temporary in life, but not music. Music stays with you through the good times and the bad. Through music you meet friends, some of those friends become like family, better than family and music has been the thing that had carried me through the darkest and best times of my life.
So here's to another 12 months of determination, persistence and not giving up.
And with gratitude for everyone who has been with me on this journey and those that are still joining.
Take care of yourselves, and each other because this world will try to chew you up and spit you out. It's up to you how you respond xx
