I’m Melissa - the maker and florist behind Lissie’s Makes, a small creative business based in Wrington, North Somerset. I create handmade gifts inspired by plants and flowers – from forever crochet plants to fresh and dried flower bouquets. If you’re after some botanical goodness, real or not, I’ve got you covered. I started my career as a primary school teacher, but after becoming chronically ill, I had to step away from the classroom. When life slowed right down, I discovered just how much comfort and joy plants could bring. As I focused on recovery, Lissie’s Makes naturally grew from my lifelong love of making. Blending my passion for all things botanical and creative, I went on to complete my floristry qualification - and I’ve loved every minute of it. Through Lissie’s Makes, I hope to spread joy and bring a little calm into people’s lives – sharing the beauty and comfort that flowers and plants can bring into a home. Alongside my online store, I love heading out to markets across North Somerset and Bristol – it’s such a pleasure to meet you lovely customers in person. Overheard at my latest market 🗨️

One of my favourite things about doing markets is hearing what customers think of my products. Here are just a few of the comments I overheard at my latest market:

💬 “They’re crocheted?! That’s amazing – I thought they were real!”
💬 "Wow, what beautiful bright colours!"
💬 “That is so me – my poor plants!”
💬 “It feels so wonderfully calm being here at your stall.”

That last one might just be my favourite. 🤍

Creating a little bit of calm has always been one of the main aims behind Lissie’s Makes. I love that my plants can bring a little bit of nature into your home, whether you love looking after real plants or perhaps have a slightly less successful track record with them! 🌱

And hearing how often people genuinely think my crochet plants are real always amazes me too! 😂🧶

In just over a week, on Saturday 3rd October, I’ll be back at Windmill Hill Market | South Bristol! 😄

It’ll be the first market of their Autumn/Winter dates and I can’t wait to be back on the farm with so many other amazing traders too.

Come and find something unique, grab some delicious lunch, have a drink, listen to some music... and say hello to the animals while you’re there 🐄🐓🐖

Such an amazing experience last week creating floral installations for the RHS Badminton Flower Show 🌸

A huge thank you to Victoria Veasey for making this incredible opportunity possible for us all and for inspiring us throughout our course and throughout this whole experience.

Visiting the show yesterday and seeing so many people enjoying something that I had a part in creating was such a special moment 😊

I’m so grateful to have been part of such a talented team and to have created something so beautiful together.
