I moved to Hove three years ago. A completely new town. I knew literally nobody.
My wife found a "dads only social get together". So I went not sure what to expect.
3 years later, I am now hosting one of these "dads social" and giving back of my time and skills to provide fathers of all ages and backgrounds, a fun filled evening!

gave me somewhere to go and people to meet. Perhaps most importantly, it offered a safe place to say when things were difficult at home or had been wearing me down.

No matter the worries I share, what comes back is always kindness and support: other dads making time to listen, offering advice, helping practically or pointing me towards options I haven’t considered.

That’s why I started volunteering with Dad La Soul. I wanted to give something back and perhaps help the next dad walking through the door for the first time. Make them feel as welcome as I did.

The work they do matters enormously. It creates space for dads to support one another, enjoy time with their children and push back against that tired idea that fathers are somehow substitute parents.

So this particular event means a lot to me.

On Thursday 17 September, I’ll be bringing The Dice & Meeple to .uk for a cool Dad La Soul board games night in Worthing.

As usual, I’ll bring with me a varied library of games, teach everything from scratch and help everyone find something they’ll enjoy. I’m incredibly excited to share something I love with a group that has given me so much.

Kind Words

Going to an event alone can be a bit scary...

"What if I'm a bit late? Will I fit in? I don't know any of the games they play..."

Joining a Meet Play Laugh session removes all of that.
You won’t be left standing awkwardly, wondering where to sit or how to join in. I’ll welcome you, introduce you to people, help you find the right table and teach you everything you need to know.

You don’t need to know the games, bring any with you or arrive with a group.
Just come in, take your seat and be ready to have fun. We’ll take care of the rest.

GOING WEEKLY 🚀

Something rather lovely is happening this September: TD&M Meet Play Laugh events are becoming a weekly thing at BeerBelly Micropub & Bottleshop 🎉

Starting Wednesday 2 September, I’ll be there every Wednesday evening, from 7–10 pm.

This is a genuine milestone for me!
However, the best bit is what it means for you: more opportunities to come along, discover brilliant games, meet lovely people and make fun a recurring part of your week!
Come solo, bring someone or gather a group of friends; I’ll help everyone find their feet and the right game for a memorable night...

HOLIDAY GAMES ☀️

If things have seemed a little quiet here lately, it’s because I’m away on holiday! 😎

But I wanted to share something rather lovely: I’ve realised that, as a family, we’ve played far more games than usual.

Now that my youngest is four, simple card and dice games are becoming much easier to bring out: while waiting at the airport, sitting in a restaurant or hiding from the heat…

The two favourites so far are UNO, complete with seriously sassy taunting from my four-year-old 🤣, and Pass the Pigs, one of the best push-your-luck games to play with children.
As you can see, my youngest rolled up quite a score…and then had the good sense to stop! A lesson some adult gamers never quite master... 🐷

Pass the Pigs also holds some of my fondest childhood holiday memories. The copy in this Reel is the very same one I played with my brother, sister, parents and grandparents! 🥰

Funny how such a tiny game can carry so many memories.

Lovely faces...

Look at those happy faces!

I am so humble by the passion and enthusiasm my players put in the games each time. Even those that came for the first time. Even those that didn't know anyone...

I am very grateful to be their choice of evening entertainment on a Wednesday. And touched by the kind words they share with me and each other at the end of the night 🙏

We had such a great time again. 9 players split over 2 tables for a couple games to break the ice and get everyone going.

Then we finished with a hilarious game of Bristol 1350.

And despite getting a rule a bit wrong (🤦), it was a blast! Watching all players getting more involved, more tense and more ruthless as the carts reached the finish line was incredible.

The finish was grand too, with all 3 carts getting out of Bristol in the same turn, but only the last 2 players of the last cart were healthy and won 🎉

I can't wait to see them again on August 5th. And hopefully some new faces too!

Wonderful evening,

The dads only event at Propellernet offices was great.
Lovely group of dads with varied backgrounds and stories.
A couple first timers too.

A few at energy to discover games and get involved in some friendly competition 😋

We finished the evening with 2 rounds of Mascarade. Hilarious moments of confusion and speculation.
Everybody loved it despite playing it for the first time ever.

The feedback was really positive so we're planning more dates with Dad La Soul and it might even become a regular thing 🥰
