Two nights, two settings 🎲🍻

One thing I really enjoyed about our first evening at The Palmeira last week, was having our little corner of games while still feeling part of the pub’s crowd.
We were tucked away enough to get into our games, but not cut off from everything happening around us. And that felt really nice 🤗

I even went for a wander to spread the word with my freshly printed flyers… That tag rugby crowd was huge! 🏉
Everyone was super friendly and many were curious about the games.

I would love for some of them to join us this Thursday... we'll see!

At BeerBelly Micropub & Bottleshop, it's a different feeling.
Every Wednesday night, their basement becomes ours! A cosy little gaming den that has started to feel like home. There's an intimacy to it that I've honestly grown very fond of 🥰

We’re kicking off tonight with our first Meet Play Laugh at The Palmeira in Hove! Come on your own or bring a friend — I’ll welcome you in, find you a table and teach the games.

Exciting news 🥳

TD&M is expanding to a new venue in Hove 🍻🎲

Meet Play Laugh is heading to The Palmeira for two Thursday evenings:

📅 1 and 8 October
🕖 7–10pm

Expect the usual TD&M recipe: fantastic modern board games selected with care, taught directly at the table no matter your experience. A fun, relaxed way to meet people and play something new.

You can come on your own or bring friends. You’ll be welcomed, seated and taught everything you need to know 🤗

We’re testing these two dates to see whether The Palmeira could become a regular TD&M venue: a fantastic addition to our weekly board-game nights.

This is your chance to help us make it happen and have your say in how it takes shape.

This is why SKULL never leaves my game bag.

Some games earn their place by doing an awful lot with almost nothing.

SKULL gives each player four beautifully illustrated discs: three flowers and one skull.
You play them facedown in turns, then eventually bid on how many discs around the table you think you can reveal without finding a skull.
That’s pretty much it... and the tension starts almost immediately!

It’s a bluffing game, but you don’t need an immaculate poker face or an elaborate web of lies. It's what you play, and when you play it that does most of the talking.
And as everyone gains confidence, the bids get bolder, the reveals get slower… and the table gets considerably louder! 😁

SKULL has been a staple of my game bag since TD&M began. It’s compact, beautiful, quick to teach and reliably creates some of the biggest reactions of the evening.

I moved to Hove three years ago. A completely new town. I knew literally nobody.
My wife found a "dads only social get together". So I went not sure what to expect.
3 years later, I am now hosting one of these "dads social" and giving back of my time and skills to provide fathers of all ages and backgrounds, a fun filled evening!

gave me somewhere to go and people to meet. Perhaps most importantly, it offered a safe place to say when things were difficult at home or had been wearing me down.

No matter the worries I share, what comes back is always kindness and support: other dads making time to listen, offering advice, helping practically or pointing me towards options I haven’t considered.

That’s why I started volunteering with Dad La Soul. I wanted to give something back and perhaps help the next dad walking through the door for the first time. Make them feel as welcome as I did.

The work they do matters enormously. It creates space for dads to support one another, enjoy time with their children and push back against that tired idea that fathers are somehow substitute parents.

So this particular event means a lot to me.

On Thursday 17 September, I’ll be bringing The Dice & Meeple to .uk for a cool Dad La Soul board games night in Worthing.

As usual, I’ll bring with me a varied library of games, teach everything from scratch and help everyone find something they’ll enjoy. I’m incredibly excited to share something I love with a group that has given me so much.

Kind Words

Going to an event alone can be a bit scary...

"What if I'm a bit late? Will I fit in? I don't know any of the games they play..."

Joining a Meet Play Laugh session removes all of that.
You won’t be left standing awkwardly, wondering where to sit or how to join in. I’ll welcome you, introduce you to people, help you find the right table and teach you everything you need to know.

You don’t need to know the games, bring any with you or arrive with a group.
Just come in, take your seat and be ready to have fun. We’ll take care of the rest.

GOING WEEKLY 🚀

Something rather lovely is happening this September: TD&M Meet Play Laugh events are becoming a weekly thing at BeerBelly Micropub & Bottleshop 🎉

Starting Wednesday 2 September, I’ll be there every Wednesday evening, from 7–10 pm.

This is a genuine milestone for me!
However, the best bit is what it means for you: more opportunities to come along, discover brilliant games, meet lovely people and make fun a recurring part of your week!
Come solo, bring someone or gather a group of friends; I’ll help everyone find their feet and the right game for a memorable night...
