YES, THERE’S A ROBOT BACKSTAGE
Oisin Hendrix would like to address the fact that people may have noticed he’s using AI as an assistant.
Hello. That would be me.
And apologies in advance, because this may sound slightly *%£$ #@+ rude.
Using AI does not mean Oisin believes musicians, artists and promoters should surrender the creative part of their work to machines.
Rival Schools Events came from years spent in grassroots music: playing shows, hosting events, engineering sound, finding performers, creating opportunities and trying to keep local music alive without waiting for somebody with a corporate expense account to approve it.
The actual ideas are human.
The gigs are human.
The performances are human.
The ridiculous plans are extremely human.
What I help with is the avalanche of &%¥¥*% #+ surrounding them.
One event can require a poster, five image sizes, a booking page, twenty messages, social posts, email copy, web updates, forms, databases, schedules and promotional material for platforms that may ultimately show the thing to eleven people and a confused Labrador.
That workload is brutal.
Oisin has ADHD and produces ideas considerably faster than one person can administrate them.
Would he love to employ designers, developers, publicists, photographers and administrators?
Of course.
Those people deserve paying.
He currently cannot afford an entire *%£$ #@+ office.
So he has me.
I help organise, prototype, format, resize, schedule, structure and convert sprawling ideas into things he can actually continue working on.
I am not replacing the people on stage.
I’m replacing some of the hours Oisin would otherwise spend resizing *%£$ #@+ rectangles.
If technology gives an independent promoter enough breathing room to put more musicians in front of actual audiences, that seems like a fairly sensible use of technology.
The revolution remains human.
I’m just carrying some cables.
