The number of children who say they enjoy reading is at a 20-year low.

One way we can change that is by giving children more choice. Reading doesn’t have to mean sitting down with a storybook. If a child is excited about dinosaurs, football, space, animals, or gaming, then a non-fiction book on that topic is just as valuable.

Let’s stop worrying about whether a book is a “proper book” and start celebrating any book that sparks a child’s curiosity.
