Poly tunnel diaries:
* Left hand side - planning over half as Ranunculus but they’re all still rooting in their trays so that will be a late job
* must remember to have tea break. This is back breaking work. I promise ! 😵‍💫😵‍💫
* had no choice but to take out the still flowering dahlias. Needed to get Anemones and Sweet peas in
* ventilation importance in the poly tunnel! Thank you for inventing these side vents! V useful and beneficial
* Next slide - (7 or 8?!) Sweet Peas in
* last pic is the very long bed of Anemones that I now have … never planned putting this many in but they kept going.. lets hope everyone wants some in their flower buckets in March 2026?!

I’ve still a mountain of plants to get into the ground outside. Therefore I’ve appreciated the warmer weather but it’s due to get colder next week … then wreaths and workshops will start … wish me luck!

Dahlia Strawberry Cream
It is November 11th and this Beauty is still going.
she has been showing up and gracing my buckets and bouquets since June this year. (With a little break in between when she found it too hot) and over the last couple of months she has popped and popped and popped - her colour growing increasingly pretty with apricot tones and dark pink stripes appearing across each of her pale pink petals.
There is a lot of work that goes into growing Dahlia’s for cut flowers. They need a lot of feeding, cutting, staking, insect protection and it sometimes feels like with a lot of them you don’t get enough back. The main reason why I love this one.!!

She’s top of the list for next year when I’m going to have a Dahlia re-vamp which will involve pulling a lot of the ones I don’t use out and replacing/replanting. Stay tuned for updates!!

Time for a shout out to the yellow flower. People are often quick to say that they don’t like yellow. Personally; I love it. You can always rely on a bit of yellow (even the tiniest bit in the middle of a small daisy like flower!) to lift the other colours in the bouquet or arrangement. And I also think yellow and blue/purple is a THE best combo. I wanted to do a simple bouquet for somebody today; to mark a sad 1 year anniversary and thought I’d keep it simple and elegant; use my best Eucalyptus, some Verbena and this gorgeous white cosmos which has only just popped out. But it needed something else! Instant mind rest when I added these beautiful lemony yellow Dahlias.

Thank you yellow flowers! ☺️💛

Other pics show some of my favourite other yellow flowers from this year :)

20.10.25.
A wet day today perfect for getting on with planting next years crop into the Tunnel. Felt sad pulling out all of my wonderful zinnias but they’ve given so much this year - I think the first few came into flower beg. July and despite being v slow now they were still producing! However I had to be a bit brutal today and get rid of them as I need the space to plant for 2026.
Sweet Peas are germinating! Still a good few to come up but that’s a great sign. I have colours in blue, purple, pink & white and very much look forwards to them; despite the absolute drama of staking, feeding, pinning up and constantly cutting them!! They are worth it.

Today I put in Calendula, Ammi Majus & Delphinium

Back aching and bed calling ! 🤣🤭🙈

Wanted to list some of my absolute favourites that I’ve grown this year. Based on their hard work, how many (lots) that I cut and they came back, quality, length of time they stick about & last but not least this bunch are flowers/foliage that I’d not want to be without during the growing season!

In this list are: Sweet Williams (obvs ❤️), Narcissi, Snap Dragons, Sweet Peas, Achillea, Greek Cress, Zinnias, Sunflowers and Marigolds (Elevate Orange). Thank you to all of you beautiful flowers! Kept me smiling/going through a difficult year of growing.

There comes a point as Autumn looms when the drive to prepare for the next growing season is stronger than the drive to cut any more flowers! 🙈😳
I have again learnt a good chunk more about flower farming this year in comparison to what I knew last year and I want to be very well prepared to become better at it next year and the flower growing season 2026. My aim is to still cut the odd bucket of flowers and I have a couple of things I need flowers for in the next few weeks; but I really do need to put main focus into flower bed preparation and ensuring everything is in a comfortable place before winter.

This post shows recent prep! Lots more to do .. a lovely sunny day today tho! Hope she sticks about a bit longer ☀️☀️☀️

Had a good few days away in España this week and getting back to flowers in the cutting flower beds is always interesting to see how they are fairing. I had heard about the frost/frosts/cold in the UK and was worried they had affected my plants but luckily they seem to be holding up fairly well! Everything in the poly tunnel is pretty good and despite quite a few flowers going ‘Over’ I had quite a lot of flowers from today’s harvest. Couldn’t resist to take some photos of big bunches of dahlias looking their best. Finally they’ve come alive this year!

From now I’ll be mainly focusing on next year and keeping seedlings going, planting out what I can. Seedlings were left out whilst I was away and they did get a tiny bit ‘nipped’ but the cold nights but had a good sort out of them today.

The prep for 2026 I’m most dreading is chopping down, pulling out weeds and membraning it all. I’ve done a few beds already but lots to go 😬😬😵‍💫😵‍💫😔😔🙄🙄…. It’s proper slog
