When people hear the word “burlesque,” they often picture the Christina Aguilera/Cher movie or a glitzy West End musical. But here’s the twist: neither actually shows what burlesque really is. So what is burlesque?

It’s theatre with a wink. It’s comedy, glamour, and rebellion rolled into one sparkling package. Born in the Victorian era as a cheeky parody of serious theatre, burlesque has always been about laughter, empowerment, and breaking the rules. Yes, there are feather fans and sequins – but there’s also satire, drag, unexpected characters… and in this case, even a human lampshade!

On Saturday 13 September, Brentwood Theatre welcomes Tassels 360 – a world-class burlesque and cabaret spectacular starring international headliners:

🌟 Demi Noire – The “Soul Sista of Burlesque”

“You do burlesque?! Like in the film?”

Ah, Burlesque: The Musical. We get asked about the West End show, and of course the movie, a lot. It’s a glittery spectacle with high notes, high heels, and…unfortunately, not a shred of actual burlesque in sight. It’s a little like ordering fish and chips and being served a fish-shaped balloon. Charming, perhaps, and still raises a smile, but not exactly what you asked for.

Here in the UK, burlesque has always been an art form with teeth. It’s rooted in satire, tease, comedy, and theatrical st******se. Burlesque has a rich British history, creating a sparkling blend of glamour and cheek that dates back long before Christina Aguilera ever found her feather boa.

Tassels 360 takes that tradition and spins it into a full-circle heist of glitter and guile. We’ve got sequins, yes – but want to show you that burlesque is so much more! We want to make you laugh, make you think, and raise your eyebrows as well as your temperature!
