Huge well done to all our young legends who survived—and hopefully smashed—their very first day at high school today! 🎓✨
Starting a brand new school is a massive milestone, and we hope they’ve come home this evening full of stories, big smiles, and a well-deserved sense of achievement after Day One.
Seeing how fast they’re growing up got us reflecting on where this all started...

Cast your minds back to last year—our Wednesday family socials actually began from a simple, honest conversation with a local parent. We were talking about how tough those dark winter evenings get when kids can’t play outside and everyone starts feeling a bit ‘stir crazy’ at home.
We didn’t set out with a rigid plan; we just wanted to create a warm space and let it evolve into whatever our families needed. We had no idea what it would become! Every Wednesday, the room was filled with so much energy and genuine excitement—the kids were proper buzzing at the thought of coming out.
It was that exact midweek buzz that inspired our new name: The Hive Community Hub 🐝💛
With the nights starting to draw in again, we are officially hard at work behind the scenes getting ready to bring The Hive family socials and dinners back for this autumn/winter!
Keep an eye out for dates, details, and menu updates coming very soon. For tonight, pop your feet up, celebrate making it through the first day of school, and join us in wishing our new high schoolers the absolute best for the term ahead!

🐞 COMING THIS OCTOBER: THE LADYBIRD CREW! 🐞

(A brand-new youth pathway at The Hive Family Socials!)

Do you know a child or young person aged 7 to 17 who loves being creative, hosting games, playing music, or making people feel welcome?

We are officially opening our Advance Interest List for the launch of the Ladybird Crew this October in Hurley (other locations may follow)

What is the Ladybird Crew?

The Ladybird Crew isn't a dry shift or unpaid labour—it’s an active, energetic group for young people who want to bring The Hive Family Socials to life! It’s a space where they get to hang out, share their personal talents, and take the lead in making our social nights amazing for everyone.

What will Crew Members actually get to do?

🎨 Share Crafting & Talents: Teach younger kids how to make cool crafts, run drawing tables, or share their favourite hobbies.

🎧 Host & Lead Mini-Discos: Take over the playlist, run party games, control the lights, and get everyone up and dancing!

🤝 Peer-to-Peer Support & Welcoming: Be the friendly face at the welcome door, help new families settle in, and make sure no child ever feels left out.

🎟️ Shape & Host Community Events: Have a real say! The Crew gets to plan, organize, and host big seasonal parties, fundraisers, and family events for the entire village.

Before a life-changing injury in 2019 redirected my path, I spent 11 years as a Registered Children's Home Manager in Birmingham working with 10–18 year olds. I saw first hand how hard it was—even in a big city—for teenagers to find real opportunities where they are genuinely listened to. In our rural villages, those spaces are even rarer. The Ladybird Crew gives young people real trust, real ownership, and a platform to become the community leaders of tomorrow in their world!

🙌 WE NEED ADULT VOLUNTEERS & PARENT HELPERS TOO!

To offer a safe independent drop-off option for our older tweens and teens (ages 11+), we need a few friendly adults to join our volunteer rota!

Flexible Commitment: Whether you can lend a hand weekly, fortnightly, or just for special events, every hour helps!

DBS Included: Unity Experiences CIC will arrange and cover the cost of a free volunteer Enhanced DBS check.

Supportive Team: You’ll always work alongside an experienced lead—helping supervise session spaces and encouraging our young crew members.

Help Us Spread the Word!

Since most young people in this age group aren't scrolling Facebook, we need our local community to share this! Please tag parents, grandparents, and carers below, or send this post to anyone with a child aged 7–17 (or anyone who’d make a great volunteer leader!).
