A company wrote this morning: 28 people, a seminar in three weeks, portraits and a team photograph. I had to say no, both dates were already booked.

This is how corporate photography usually arrives. The venue is chosen, the catering is chosen, the programme is written, and photography is remembered last.

Two things worth knowing if you are planning one.

Individual portraits work best in the evening, after the programme. People have relaxed by then, and four minutes each is enough for someone to stop apologising for how they look and start looking like themselves.

The group photograph belongs to the next morning, while everyone is still in one place and the light is kind.

What I need from you is one room with a window and a wall that is not patterned. Not a studio, not equipment. A window.

And book earlier than feels necessary. Not because dates are scarce, but because photography ends up in whatever slot is left over.

For a long time I called myself a photographer. It was not the full picture.

When a client books a personal brand session with me, I am the one who maps out the day. I scout the location, I coordinate the timing, I brief the stylist or the makeup artist when we bring one, and I keep the shoot calm so you can actually be present. By the time you arrive, the hard part is already done.

That is the difference between a set of photos and a set of photos that feel like you and work for your business. It is rarely the camera. It is the planning behind it.
