📣Pour cette nouvelle édition, l'ABF a l'honneur d'organiser la Finale Européenne de l'ABNA ! 🤠🇪🇺

Cette année, les règles de l'ABNA changent : il ne sera plus question d'un cumul de points pour pouvoir prétendre au titre suprême de Champion Européen 2026 ou Supreme European Best in Show 2026. 🎖🏆

Dans chaque catégorie, Standard et Bully, les chiens ayant été désignés meilleurs mâles et femelles durant les 12 mois, s'affronteront d'abord par catégorie de s*xe.♀️♂️

Puis, le meilleur mâle et la meilleure femelle de chaque catégorie seront opposés pour que soit désigné parmi eux le Meilleur Standard et le Meilleur Bully de l'année. 🏅

Enfin, les chiens élus Best Bully et Best Standard affronteront, pour le titre Européen, les chiens ayant obtenu le titre de Best Champion, Best Grand Champion et Best Working Dog de l'année. 🥇

Les candidats seront alors soumis à l'appréciation des juges, qui devront déterminer quel chien est le plus proche de la perfection par rapport aux exigences de sa classe (Standard ou Bully).✨️👌

À ce stade, l'endurance, la fluidité des mouvements et l'absence de fatigue ou de faiblesse respiratoire seront également évalués pour distinguer le vainqueur.

📣 For 2026 edition, the ABF is proud to host the ABNA European Final! 🤠🇪🇺

This year, the ABNA rules are changing: there will no longer be a points-based system to qualify for the prestigious titles of 2026 European Champion or 2026 Supreme European Best in Show. 🎖🏆

In each category, Standard and Bully, the dogs that have been named Best Male and Best Female over the past 12 months will first compete against each other by s*x. ♀️♂️

Then, the Best Male and Best Female in each category will compete to determine the Best Standard and Best Bully of the Year. 🏅

Finally, the dogs named Best Bully and Best Standard will compete for the European title against the dogs that have earned the titles of Best Champion, Best Grand Champion, and Best Working Dog of the Year. 🥇

The finalists will then be assessed by the judges, who will determine which dog comes closest to perfection according to the requirements of its class (Standard or Bully). ✨️👌

At this stage, endurance, fluidity of movement, and the absence of fatigue or breathing difficulties will also be evaluated in order to determine the winner.

In dieser Phase werden außerdem Ausdauer, flüssige Bewegungsabläufe sowie das Fehlen von Ermüdungserscheinungen oder Atemproblemen bewertet, um den Sieger zu bestimmen.

🐾 Bully ou Standard : connaissez-vous la différence ? 🐾

Quand on parle de Bulldog américain, on entend souvent les termes Bully et Standard… mais concrètement, à quoi cela correspond ? 🤔

Le Bulldog américain se décline principalement en deux types : le Bully et le Standard.

👉 Le type Bully se reconnaît notamment à sa tête très large et massive, avec un stop marqué, un museau plus court et une expression très puissante. La morphologie de sa tête est souvent l’un des premiers critères qui permet de distinguer le type Bully.

👉 Le type Standard présente généralement une tête plus fine et plus allongée, avec un museau plus long et une expression plus « athlétique ». La tête reste bien évidemment large et typique du Bulldog américain, mais elle est moins massive que dans le type Bully.

🐶 Avec le temps et l'évolution de la race et des pratiques d'élevage, des déclinaisons entre les 2 types se sont développées.

Toutefois, les standards de la race sont appréciés au regard des 2 types originels que sont le type Standard et le type Bully.

Une chose est certaine : Bully ou Standard, on parle bien de la même race ❤️

🐾 Bully or Standard: do you know the difference? 🐾

When talking about the American Bulldog, we often hear the terms Bully and Standard… but what do they actually mean? 🤔

The American Bulldog is mainly divided into two types: Bully and Standard.

👉 The Bully type can notably be recognized by its very broad and massive head, with a pronounced stop, a shorter muzzle, and a very powerful expression. The shape and structure of the head are often among the first features that help distinguish the Bully type.

👉 The Standard type generally has a more refined and elongated head, with a longer muzzle and a more “athletic” expression. The head is, of course, still broad and typical of the American Bulldog, but it is less massive than that of the Bully type.

🐶 Over time, with the evolution of the breed and breeding practices, variations between these two types have developed.

However, the breed standards are still assessed in relation to the two original types: Standard and Bully.

One thing is certain: Bully or Standard, we are talking about the same breed ❤️

Wenn man über den American Bulldog spricht, hört man häufig die Begriffe Bully und Standard … aber was genau bedeuten sie eigentlich? 🤔

Beim American Bulldog unterscheidet man hauptsächlich zwischen zwei Typen: Bully und Standard.

👉 Der Bully-Typ ist insbesondere an seinem sehr breiten und massiven Kopf mit ausgeprägtem Stop, einer kürzeren Schnauze und einem sehr kraftvollen Ausdruck zu erkennen. Die Form und der Aufbau des Kopfes gehören häufig zu den ersten Merkmalen, anhand derer sich der Bully-Typ unterscheiden lässt.

👉 Der Standard-Typ hat in der Regel einen feineren und länglicheren Kopf, eine längere Schnauze und einen eher „athletischen“ Ausdruck. Der Kopf bleibt selbstverständlich breit und typisch für den American Bulldog, ist jedoch weniger massiv als beim Bully-Typ.

🐶 Im Laufe der Zeit haben sich durch die Entwicklung der Rasse und der Zuchtpraktiken verschiedene Varianten zwischen diesen beiden Typen entwickelt.

Die Rassestandards werden jedoch weiterhin anhand der beiden ursprünglichen Typen beurteilt: Standard und Bully.

🔵 NKC – National Kennel Club

Créé en 1969, le NKC est le plus ancien des deux. Registre multiraces, il a joué un rôle important dans l’enregistrement des American Bulldogs, le suivi de leurs pedigrees et l’organisation de shows de conformation. 📖🐾

Pour l’American Bulldog, le NKC reconnaît notamment les deux grands types :

🐶 Standard
🐶 Bully

Les chiens sont jugés selon le standard du registre et peuvent obtenir différents classements et titres au fil des compétitions. 🏆

🔴 ABNA – American Bulldog National Alliance

Créée en 1998, l’ABNA est, contrairement au NKC, une organisation spécifiquement consacrée à l’American Bulldog. ❤️🐶

L’un de ses objectifs fondateurs était de permettre à des American Bulldogs provenant de différents grands registres de se retrouver dans une même compétition, autour d’un standard et d’une passion commune pour la race.

L’ABNA accorde une place importante à la fonctionnalité du chien, à son équilibre général, à sa construction et à ses aptitudes athlétiques, tout en conservant les caractéristiques propres aux types :

🐶 Bully

Elle cherche ainsi à valoriser un American Bulldog à la fois typique, équilibré et fonctionnel, en évitant que les exagérations morphologiques ne nuisent à ses mouvements ou à ses capacités physiques. 💪🐾

⚖️ DES APPROCHES DIFFÉRENTES, MAIS UNE MÊME RACE

Le NKC et l’ABNA disposent chacun de leur propre standard et de leurs propres règles de jugement. Un même chien peut donc être présenté sous les deux organisations et être apprécié différemment selon les critères appliqués par chaque juge.

Et surtout : NKC ou ABNA ne désigne pas un type d’American Bulldog ! ☝️

Les deux organisations jugent l’American Bulldog, avec ses deux grands types historiques : Standard et Bully, ainsi que les chiens présentant des caractéristiques intermédiaires selon les règles du registre concerné.

🏆 COMMENT SE DÉROULE UN SHOW ?

Sur le ring, les chiens sont présentés par leur handler et répartis dans différentes classes selon les règles de l’organisation, notamment en fonction de leur âge, de leur s*xe et de leur type.

Les juges observent notamment :

🔎 le type et l’expression générale
📏 les proportions et la construction
🦴 l’ossature et les aplombs
🐕 les mouvements et les allures
💪 l’équilibre général et la fonctionnalité
📋 la conformité au standard

Les meilleurs chiens progressent ensuite dans la compétition jusqu’aux différents titres et au très attendu Best in Show ! 🏆✨

Au-delà des récompenses, ces shows permettent de confronter les chiens au standard, d’orienter la sélection et de participer à la préservation des caractéristiques historiques et fonctionnelles de l’American Bulldog. ❤️

As with many breeds, shows entirely dedicated to the American Bulldog are organised around the world 🌎

At the American Bulldog Convention 2026, two major organisations within the breed will be represented: NKC and ABNA. But do you really know the difference between them? 👀

🔵 NKC – National Kennel Club

Founded in 1969, NKC is the older of the two. As a multi-breed registry, it has played an important role in registering American Bulldogs, maintaining their pedigrees and organising conformation shows. 📖🐾

For the American Bulldog, NKC notably recognises the two main types:

🐶 Standard
🐶 Bully

Dogs are judged according to the registry’s standard and can earn various placements and titles throughout competitions. 🏆

🔴 ABNA – American Bulldog National Alliance

Founded in 1998, ABNA, unlike NKC, is an organisation specifically dedicated to the American Bulldog. ❤️🐶

One of its founding goals was to allow American Bulldogs from different major registries to come together and compete in the same event, around a shared standard and passion for the breed.

ABNA places significant importance on the dog’s functionality, overall balance, structure and athletic ability, while maintaining the characteristics of the two types:

🐶 Standard
🐶 Bully

Its aim is to promote an American Bulldog that is typical, balanced and functional, while avoiding morphological exaggerations that could negatively affect movement or physical ability. 💪🐾

⚖️ DIFFERENT APPROACHES, BUT ONE BREED

NKC and ABNA each have their own standard and judging rules. The same dog may therefore be shown under both organisations and evaluated differently depending on the criteria applied by each judge.

And most importantly: NKC or ABNA does not describe a type of American Bulldog! ☝️

Both organisations judge the American Bulldog, including its two main historical types: Standard and Bully, as well as dogs with intermediate characteristics according to the rules of the organisation concerned.

🏆 HOW DOES A SHOW WORK?

In the ring, dogs are presented by their handlers and divided into different classes according to the organisation’s rules, notably based on age, s*x and type.

Judges assess:

🔎 type and overall expression
📏 proportions and structure
🦴 bone and stance
🐕 movement and gait
💪 overall balance and functionality
📋 conformity to the breed standard

The best dogs then progress through the competition towards the different titles and the highly anticipated Best in Show! 🏆✨

Beyond the awards, these shows allow dogs to be assessed against the breed standard, help guide breeding selection and contribute to preserving the historical and functional characteristics of the American Bulldog. ❤️

Auf der American Bulldog Convention 2026 werden zwei bedeutende Organisationen der Rasse vertreten sein: NKC und ABNA. Aber kennt ihr wirklich die Unterschiede zwischen beiden? 👀

🔵 NKC – National Kennel Club

Der 1969 gegründete NKC ist der ältere der beiden. Als Register für mehrere Rassen hat er eine wichtige Rolle bei der Registrierung von American Bulldogs, der Dokumentation ihrer Abstammungen und der Organisation von Conformation Shows gespielt. 📖🐾

Beim American Bulldog werden insbesondere die beiden Haupttypen anerkannt:

Die Hunde werden nach dem Standard des Registers beurteilt und können bei den verschiedenen Wettbewerben Platzierungen und Titel erhalten. 🏆

🔴 ABNA – American Bulldog National Alliance

Die 1998 gegründete ABNA ist im Gegensatz zum NKC eine Organisation, die speziell dem American Bulldog gewidmet ist. ❤️🐶

Eines ihrer ursprünglichen Ziele war es, American Bulldogs aus verschiedenen großen Registern in einem gemeinsamen Wettbewerb zusammenzubringen – rund um einen gemeinsamen Standard und die Leidenschaft für die Rasse.

Die ABNA legt großen Wert auf Funktionalität, allgemeine Ausgewogenheit, Körperbau und sportliche Fähigkeiten des Hundes und berücksichtigt dabei die beiden Typen:

🐶 Standard
🐶 Bully

Ziel ist es, einen typischen, ausgewogenen und funktionalen American Bulldog zu fördern und morphologische Übertreibungen zu vermeiden, die Bewegung oder körperliche Leistungsfähigkeit beeinträchtigen könnten. 💪🐾

⚖️ UNTERSCHIEDLICHE ANSÄTZE, ABER EINE RASSE

NKC und ABNA verfügen jeweils über einen eigenen Standard und eigene Bewertungsregeln. Derselbe Hund kann daher unter beiden Organisationen vorgestellt und je nach angewandten Kriterien unterschiedlich bewertet werden.

Und ganz wichtig: NKC oder ABNA bezeichnet keinen Typ des American Bulldogs! ☝️

Beide Organisationen beurteilen den American Bulldog mit seinen beiden historischen Haupttypen: Standard und Bully, sowie Hunde mit Zwischenmerkmalen entsprechend den jeweiligen Regeln.

🏆 WIE LÄUFT EINE SHOW AB?

Im Ring werden die Hunde von ihren Handlern präsentiert und nach den Regeln der jeweiligen Organisation in verschiedene Klassen eingeteilt, unter anderem nach Alter, Geschlecht und Typ.

Die Richter beurteilen insbesondere:

🔎 Typ und Gesamtausdruck
📏 Proportionen und Körperbau
🦴 Knochenbau und Stellung
🐕 Bewegung und Gangwerk
💪 allgemeine Ausgewogenheit und Funktionalität
📋 Übereinstimmung mit dem Rassestandard

Die besten Hunde kommen anschließend in die nächsten Runden und kämpfen um die verschiedenen Titel bis hin zum begehrten Best in Show! 🏆✨

Über die Auszeichnungen hinaus ermöglichen diese Shows den Vergleich mit dem Rassestandard, unterstützen die Zuchtauswahl und tragen zur Erhaltung der historischen und funktionalen Merkmale des American Bulldogs bei. ❤️
