Have you ever wondered how you could make your internment of ashes a Celebration of Life? The following is an article from The Academy of Modern Celebrancy, which I thought I would share on my page.

"Jeremy Vine had a really interesting discussion about funerals and special things peope have gone with. They had a lovely interview with a celebrant and it highlights how personal things can be. This is a really good listen and might give you some inspiration of uniquely personalising that symbolic moment in your script. For me there are a few that really stand out from funerals I had the honour of being a part of. That includes wooden chess pieces placed by the family during the moment of reflection. Wine gums at the committal. A special shot of vodka and orange squash called a 'Rogie' made up and named after the person we were celebrating. His cat Lily visits his tree with her mum (photo attached). We had a very special goodbye for a prison warden with his truncheon. Hes watching the entrance of the meadow for us with his cat pip 💚🐈. A really special bongo drum procession which you can see was set up in the photos below.

The family has planted a tree with 4 ashes plots, one has all their past dogs ashes that were placed in beautiful personalised bags with all their names and photos. 🐶 They pre-purchased the plot for each of them and for any future pets ashes. They have planted the tree in advance in celebration of all of their lives so it doesn't have to be done after someone has died. It can be done before as a special moment with a prepurchase.

Some of the examples discussed were: at the meadow shared custard creams, vegetables from the persons garden. Bits of left over metal from a metal worker that he touched. We've had a wooden viking boat placed on the coffin and a beautiful wooden sign made by the family saying grandad. These are just a few I remember so clearly."

Handfasting, is one of several symbolic rituals which I love doing in a wedding ceremony. They add richness, symbolism, create additional memories, & you have a keepsake to treasure. Handfasting, a Celtic tradition, started off in medieval times when there were insufficient priests, which meant priests had to travel from parish to parish. If a visit from the priest was not imminent, a couple would join hands in a handfasting, which represented a valid betrothal ceremony. Nowadays, couples buy beautiful handfasting cords, made with cords & ribbons, which are tied, whilst making promises to each other, during the ceremony. This is where the term, "tying-the-knot" comes from.
