Went to 10 years of last weekend with lil kimchi and he loved the NYC noods😍. With the changing landscape of Berlin gastronomy, a lot of the businesses I came up with back in the early days have been leaving or closing their doors due to rising rents and costs. I’m facing a huge rent increase myself on my catering kitchen which we are trying to navigate, so let’s see what the year brings. It’s nice to celebrate the success of Stella and hope for many more years ahead!

Little known fact, Suzy actually inadvertently gave Fräulein Kimchi my official start. Back in 2010 when she was running one of Berlin’s first underground supperclubs, I interviewed for a job with her as a prep chef. I had zero experience in gastronomy and despite my best attempts to talk myself up, I guess she saw right through me and I didn’t get the job 😂. She was gracious enough though to recommend who was just starting a cooking class school and they hired me to teach my Korean and Korean-fusion cooking classes. The rest as they say is history and… voila, super proud that we are all here 10+ years later.

It’s 10 years today since I lost my brother to cancer. Getting my own cancer diagnosis last year felt like an ironic infinite jest. It’s a bittersweet anniversary this year. One where I get to be a survivor and grieve my brother who was not. Love you Jin. Miss you always.
