📘 RENEW Final Publication Now Available!

We are pleased to announce the publication of the final publication of the RENEW Project – Reinforcing the European Network on Energies and reneWables, funded by the European Union under the CERV Programme.

The publication brings together the main achievements, activities, best practices, survey results, and lessons learned throughout the project, which connected citizens, municipalities, experts, and organizations from six European countries around the themes of renewable energy, sustainability, democratic participation, and active citizenship.

Inside the publication, readers will find:
🔹 An overview of the RENEW project and its objectives;
🔹 Highlights from the international events held in the Czech Republic and Malta;
🔹 Participants’ feedback and project impact analysis;
🔹 Good practices and recommendations on the transition to renewable energy;

🏛️🌊 Discovering Gozo through culture, heritage, and sustainability 🇪🇺

As part of the second international meeting of the RENEW Project, participants took part in a full-day educational and cultural tour around the beautiful island of Gozo.

The programme included visits to some of the island’s most iconic and meaningful sites, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Ġgantija Temples, the stunning Dwejra Bay, the traditional Salt Pans, the historic Citadella in Rabat, and the Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary.

Beyond their cultural and historical value, these places offered participants the opportunity to reflect on the strong connection between sustainability, tourism, environmental protection, local traditions, and community resilience. 🌱

The experience highlighted how preserving cultural heritage and natural landscapes goes hand in hand with building a more sustainable and inclusive future for local communities across Europe.

Through exchanges, shared experiences, and intercultural dialogue, participants strengthened not only their knowledge, but also the spirit of European cooperation and mutual understanding at the heart of the RENEW Project. 🤝

🍅☀️ Sustainability, innovation, and local resilience: this was the inspiring focus of the RENEW Project visit to Magro Brothers in Xewkija, Gozo.

Founded in 1916 and home to Malta’s first tomato-processing plant since 1934, Magro Brothers has grown into one of Gozo’s leading food-processing companies, combining tradition, local agriculture, innovation, and international production. Today, the company exports its products across Europe while continuing to invest in renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable production systems, and ESG-oriented development.

During the visit, participants of the second international meeting of RENEW explored how a traditional local industry can actively contribute to the green transition through renewable energy investments, reduced energy consumption, modernized production systems, and stronger environmental responsibility.

The experience perfectly reflected the core message of RENEW: Europe’s transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable future starts from local communities, local businesses, and citizens willing to innovate and cooperate. 🌍♻️

By connecting economic development, environmental sustainability, and community engagement, Magro Brothers showed how local action can successfully support the broader goals of the European Green Deal and Europe’s path towards climate neutrality.

☀️ Exploring renewable energy in practice! 🇪🇺🔋

During the second international meeting of the RENEW Project in Gozo, participants had the opportunity to visit innovative renewable energy sites and learn more about how local communities can contribute to Europe’s green transition.

From solar energy solutions to sustainable local investments, the visit highlighted the importance of grassroots action in building a cleaner and more resilient future. 🌱

The exchanges between citizens, local authorities, experts, and organizations showed once again that the transition to renewables starts from local communities and from people working together towards a common European goal. 🤝

A greener, more sustainable, and emission-free Europe can only be achieved through cooperation, participation, and innovation at every level. 💡

Facts: Malta’s first and Europe’s pioneering "solar flower" installation is located at the Gozo Multi-Modal Hub in Ta' Xħajma, Gozo. Inspired by sunflowers, these 15 intelligent, flower-shaped systems automatically open at sunrise, track the sun across the sky, and generate up to 40% more energy than traditional rooftop solar panels. At the core of the event is the idea that the European energy transition cannot be achieved without the active participation of citizens at local level. Through conferences, workshops, and study visits, participants will explore how communities can contribute to reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting renewable energy solutions.
