Kylie Minogue was known across Australia as Charlene Mitchell from the hit TV series Neighbours. At just 19 years old, she had never planned to become one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
Everything changed after one spontaneous charity performance of The Loco-Motion caught the attention of Mushroom Records. Within days, Kylie entered the recording studio, and on July 28, 1987, her debut single was officially released in Australia.
The song became an instant phenomenon. It spent seven consecutive weeks at No. 1, became one of Australia's best-selling singles of the 1980s, and launched a career that would span decades.
Soon afterward, Kylie traveled to London to work with legendary producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman. According to the famous studio story, they had forgotten she was arriving and hurriedly wrote I Should Be So Lucky while she waited. Kylie recorded the vocals in just minutes, astonishing everyone with her natural timing, pitch, and professionalism.
From that moment, there was no turning back. Albums sold millions of copies, radio stations played her songs around the clock, and audiences from London to Tokyo embraced a new global pop icon.
