WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW patří již téměř tři dekády k výrazným jménům evropské gothic rockové a dark wave scény. Rakouská kapela vedená charismatickým frontmanem Ashley Dayour se proslavila propojením post-punku, gotického rocku a mystické atmosféry s hlubokými texty o víře, spiritualitě, smrti i lidských pochybnostech.

V roce 2025 přichází skupina se svým dvanáctým studiovým albem Rapture, které navazuje na kritikou oceňovanou desku Ghosts z roku 2023. Novinka nabízí temnou, emotivní a zároveň epickou hudební cestu mezi melancholií a katarzí. Charakteristický zvuk kapely stojí na výrazném vokálu Ashleyho Dayoura, atmosférických kytarách, pulzující rytmice a filmově laděných aranžích.

Album vychází pod labelem Icy Cold Records a přináší skladby jako „From the Mouth of Babes“, „Illusions of Grandeur“ nebo dvanáctiminutovou kompozici „Origin Story“. Textově se Rapture pohybuje na hranici mezi vírou a fanatismem, krásou duchovního hledání a jeho temnými deformacemi. Kapela tak znovu potvrzuje svou pozici jedné z nejoriginálnějších formací současné dark alternative scény.

For nearly three decades, WHISPERS IN THE SHADOW has been a prominent name on the European gothic rock and dark wave scene. Led by charismatic frontman Ashley Dayour, the Austrian band has made a name for itself by blending post-punk, gothic rock, and a mystical atmosphere with profound lyrics about faith, spirituality, death, and human doubts.

In 2025, the band releases its twelfth studio album, Rapture, which follows up on the critically acclaimed 2023 album Ghosts. The new release offers a dark, emotional, and at the same time epic musical journey between melancholy and catharsis. The band’s distinctive sound is built on Ashley Dayour’s powerful vocals, atmospheric guitars, pulsating rhythms, and cinematic arrangements.

The album is released on the Icy Cold Records label and features tracks such as “From the Mouth of Babes,” “Illusions of Grandeur,” and the twelve-minute composition “Origin Story.” Lyrically, Rapture navigates the fine line between faith and fanaticism, the beauty of spiritual seeking and its dark distortions. The band thus reaffirms its position as one of the most original acts on the contemporary dark alternative scene.

To Avoid (DE) je německý dark electro / EBM projekt, který od konce 90. let formují hudebníci m.a.r.c., Jean a cheffe. Kořeny kapely sahají k původní dvojici Tino (grandT) a Marco (m.a.r.c.), jejichž nadšení pro EBM a dark electro scénu 80. a 90. let, spolu s fascinací analogovými i digitálními syntezátory, dalo vzniknout vlastním hudebním experimentům.
První tvorba vznikala v domácím studiu bez stylových omezení a byla vydávána nezávisle poté, co si získala pozornost i prostor v německém rádiu. Název To Avoid vznikl původně náhodně, postupně se však stal charakteristickým symbolem projektu – ne jako výraz odmítnutí, ale jako označení osobité elektronické hudby.
V roce 2003 se k projektu připojil Marco (cheffe), původně jako promotér a booking agent, který se postupně stal plnohodnotným členem a výrazně se podílel na produkci. V roce 2007 doplnil sestavu Jean (dříve Babylon Will Fall), jenž zároveň stojí za ikonickým logem „TA“.
To Avoid mají za sebou desítky koncertů napříč Evropou : od Německa přes Švýcarsko, Finsko či Nizozemsko až po Českou republiku. Sdíleli stage s ikonami scény jako Absolute Body Control, Luc Van Acker, Combichrist, Funker Vogt, Armageddon Di**os, Grendel, The Invincible Spirit, AGONOIZE či [:SITD:], a vystoupili na festivalech jako NCN, Darkstorm, Terra Gotha, nebo Secret Garden.

To Avoid (DE) is a German dark electro/EBM project formed in the late 1990s by musicians m.a.r.c., Jean, and cheffe. The band’s roots trace back to the original duo of Tino (grandT) and Marco (m.a.r.c.), whose enthusiasm for the EBM and dark electro scenes of the 1980s and 1990s, combined with a fascination for both analog and digital synthesizers, gave rise to their own musical experiments.
Their early work was created in a home studio without stylistic constraints and was released independently after gaining attention and airplay on German radio. The name To Avoid was originally chosen at random, but gradually became a defining symbol of the project—not as an expression of rejection, but as a designation for distinctive electronic music.
In 2003, Marco (cheffe) joined the project, initially as a promoter and booking agent, but he gradually became a full-fledged member and played a significant role in production. In 2007, Jean (formerly of Babylon Will Fall) joined the lineup; he is also the creator of the iconic “TA” logo.
To Avoid has performed dozens of shows across Europe : from Germany to Switzerland, Finland, and the Netherlands, all the way to the Czech Republic. They have shared the stage with icons of the scene such as Absolute Body Control, Luc Van Acker, Combichrist, Funker Vogt, Armageddon Di**os, Grendel, The Invincible Spirit, AGONOIZE, and [:SITD:], and have performed at festivals including NCN, Darkstorm, Terra Gotha, Secret Garden.
