Official Statement – AS ONE United in Worship
Dear AS ONE family,
We understand the disappointment, the questions, and the emotions surrounding the fact that Tasha Cobbs Leonard was not present at AS ONE – United in Worship. That is why we want to clearly, honestly, and respectfully explain what happened.
AS ONE – United in Worship is an initiative of Alpha & Omega School of Arts, with Fundashon Binti Ocho / Binti Ocho Events supporting the organization, production, and ex*****on of the event.
Many people know Binti Ocho for well-organized events where the experience is central and visitors go home with a good feeling. That is exactly why this situation affects us so deeply. We understand that people place trust in our name, and that this trust is now under pressure.
Tasha Cobbs Leonard was unable to travel to Curaçao due to a passport/travel document issue on her side. Her team informed us on June 3 and 4 that her passport had not yet been issued and that, because of this, she might not be able to travel internationally.
From that moment on, we did everything within our power to still get her to Curaçao. There was intensive communication with her team, management, our partners, and the authorities in Curaçao. An emergency solution through a private charter flight was also explored.
On June 5, in consultation with the competent authorities in Curaçao, possible solutions were reviewed until the very last moment to allow Tasha Cobbs Leonard to travel to Curaçao in a correct and safe manner. The available travel documents and information were reviewed so that all parties involved could have clarity on the possibilities.
Based on the available information, it became clear that there was no objection from Curaçao’s side to facilitate her arrival. A charter was also ready to depart, so that Tasha Cobbs Leonard could still travel to Curaçao on time.
Despite these intensive efforts and the willingness of several parties to help find a solution, Tasha Cobbs Leonard ultimately did not travel to Curaçao.
We therefore want to be very clear: this situation was not caused by Fundashon Binti Ocho, Binti Ocho Events, Alpha & Omega School of Arts, Curaçao, the venue, or the local organization. We tried until the very last moment to make her arrival possible.
At the same time, we also know that this is unfortunately a risk within the events industry. You can plan, invest, communicate, and produce for months and still, something can go wrong at the very last moment outside of your control. That does not make it less painful, but it is important to acknowledge it honestly.
AS ONE continued that evening with the other artists, worship teams, production, volunteers, and visitors who were present. We are grateful to everyone who came despite the disappointment and carried an evening of worship, faith, and unity together with us.
We understand that many visitors purchased a ticket especially to see Tasha Cobbs Leonard. At the same time, the event was not cancelled: the doors opened, the production continued, and the program was carried out with the artists and teams who were present.
That is why we are currently carefully reviewing, together with our legal and ticketing partners, what an appropriate and feasible compensation arrangement for ticket holders could look like. Once there is clarity, we will communicate this through our official channels.
We ask for understanding, patience, and respect while we handle this carefully. This was also a major blow to us as an organization — financially and emotionally. But we choose to communicate transparently and take responsibility toward our audience.
Thank you to everyone who supported, prayed for, helped, and carried AS ONE.
