Secret Milan: The Monster of Via Bagnera
Now pay attention.
What I’m about to tell you sounds like something out of a noir novel by Giorgio Scerbanenco — but this story is disturbingly true.
In the heart of Milan, there’s a narrow alley few people notice: Via Bagnera. But between 1849 and 1859, it was the scene of horrifying crimes.
Antonio Boggia, a doorman and mason, lured victims — businessmen, workers, even an elderly woman — into a basement under the pretense of antiques or business deals. There, he killed and dismembered them, hiding the remains behind newly bricked walls.
He escaped justice for years. Declared insane and released, he struck again. Only after his last murder — that of Ester Maria Perrocchio — was he condemned and publicly hanged in 1862: Milan’s last public ex*****on.
Criminologist Cesare Lombroso studied Boggia’s skull, calling him the “perfect example of a born killer.”
Some say if you walk down Via Bagnera at night, you’ll feel a cold breath on your neck…
