Dr. J

Dr. J Cinematic soul music.

Recent productions feature a more electronic edge, (as opposed to the more analougue instrumentation employed in previous work) drawing upon ambient, broken beat, breaks, house, dubstep and drum & bass styles to create a personal pallaete of sound which varies from embracing warmth to thunderous rapacity.

What a wonderful evening! Huge shout to the lovely folk who came down and danced, to Nathi for staying ‘til the end and taking some lovely photos videos (3 of which are featured above) to the incredible staff at UM | Unternehmen Mitte for their patience and kindness and of course the team at Em Bebbi sy Jazz for the invitation and opportunity to spin records! Always a pleasure and I was in great company with the amazing live music going on around the city! Set list to follow via my website! ♥️👊🏾

Doing things the old fashioned way this time. ☺️

In the process of preparing to launch album number 4 after 4 years of grind, delays and setbacks, but grateful to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Penning some letters by hand to folk that have been on this musical journey with me for decades, as well as few that have joined a bit more recently. Looking to get this lot in the post sharpish, and those on Bandcamp/the mailing list will have already been given a little heads up! 🙃

14.8 for Em Bebbi sy Jazz Festival at Unternehmen Mitte from 00:15 - 02:00 👊🏾♥️

10/07/2026

On the 14th August I’m playing a very special cinematic soul DJ set for at !

Expect my trademark mixture of deep funk, heavy breakbeats, sultry disco with plenty in between and beyond - this one’s gonna be strictly dance floor business! 🕺🏾 💃🏽 🪩

My set kicks off at 00:15 and I’m playing until the wee hours to close things out! Entry to the festival is free (I went last year and it was AMAZING) so if you’re around that weekend and jazzy, funky, soulful music is your thing - get involved!

As you can see, I’m honoured and excited to play records for folk attending the festival this year, and would love you to join us!

I want to say a HUGE thank you to Neil March for the lovely write up of Foreigners & Exiles in Edition #116 of Trust The Doc! Can’t express how grateful I am for your willingness to take the time to listen and share your thoughts and love for it! ♥️👊🏾

Surprise! My 4th album is nearing completion and to celebrate, I’m dropping brand new music on Bandcamp today! It’s called Foreigners & Exiles! Cinematic deep funk crossbred with orchestral hip-hop, peppered with spoken word and a sung hook! Been sat on this one for a little while, and honestly, I didn’t consider it as a single when I first wrote it… let alone the lead single! Nonetheless, I’m incredibly happy to share it with you as the next LP approaches! Let me know what you think in the comments!
