Cashew
Part 2:
You sat on my lap during Zoom meetings, disrupted agendas, and sat in front of my computer screen as if to tell me that I needed to stop, slow down, and take a break. You offered reprieved through the challenges of life, stayed up with me when I couldn’t sleep, watched my favourite shows, tolerated my cringe mixing when I was learning to DJ, and moved with us to start our new lives in Victoria.
In January you started to get sick. We brought you to the vet, changed your diet, and tried everything we could to get you better to no avail. On March 11, I got a call from the vet that left me in tatters. To his surprise and despite the results of your lab tests several weeks prior, the ultrasound the specialist conducted on your tummy showed that you had developed feline gastrointestinal lymphoma (stomach cancer). My heart sank. The prognosis was terminal: Stage 3 cancer. Chemotherapy and other treatments were unlikely to succeed and would only prolong your suffering. The best we could do was keep you as comfortable as possible and shower you with love and care.
We did the best we could to care for you since, but today we had to say goodbye in order to put an end to your suffering. You’re leaving behind a brother and two cat parents who will miss you inexplicably. The hole in my heart will take a long time to mend because the pain I feel is commensurate to how much I love you. We will miss you, think of you, and carry you in our hearts every day. Your suffering is done. You can now rest well and in peace my boy.
We love you so much,
Dad and Mom
