Feeling so grateful to be part of this meaningful project at Schreiber Public School.

"Showing Up: Engagement Through Art" is about connection, creativity, and conversations that matter.

Tracy Barry’s Bio

Tracy Barry is a visual artist from Northern Ontario. She specializes in creating paintings showcasing the beauty of Northern Ontario whether it be the majestic roots of a tree, the surreal calm of the water of the lake, or the breathtaking beauty of the Northern sky. In her subject matter, Tracy incorporates her upbringing in rural Rossport, Ontario. She creates her paintings in a way that evokes a memory, perhaps a time when the viewer may have encountered such a scene in real life.

Tracy’s artistic vision began to take shape through her sketches, which she started at the age of 10. She transitioned to oil painting in her teen years and later on in her 20's moved on to acrylics, which is her preferred medium. She has been a professional artist since 2010. What makes Tracy unique is that she produces thought provoking art. Her goal is to leave the viewer “wanting more”. In her painting she leaves room for interpretation by the viewer, thereby giving not only a unique visual representation, but also adding a philosophical element to her work.

Tracy prides herself on being a strong advocate for young entrepreneurs and not-for-profit

organizations, which is evident through her Traveling Canvas Fundraising Event (TCFE) in 2015 which she hopes to turn into an annual event. Her goal with TCFE is to establish funding for not-for-profit organizations. The inaugural event raised $700 along with another project near and dear to her, In 2015 she created Painting Party Thunder Bay, which provides the community with a new way of entertaining through team building, staff parties, public painting, and fundraising activities. Tracy moved on in 2018, from Painting Party to a new teaching method infusing a personal growth element to her workshops. "Making Art a Lifestyle" is Tracy's new statement for those who come to her classes & events. She has been consistently recognized for her work and community involvement as she is a recipient of the CEDC Summer Company Grant in 2015 and received the Exhibition Assistance grant through the Ontario Arts Counsel in 2017. She also has a featured article in the Summer Edition of the Northwest Women’s Magazine through the Chronicle Journal titled, “Be You.” In 2017 Tracy was nominated for the Community Leadership Award through SHIFT Network. Through her community involvement she has participated in the Eco Superior Rain Barrel Auction, winning the, “Best Individual Effort” Award in 2015 and 2017.

In addition to being a professional artist and community advocate Tracy is also an accomplished entrepreneur. She continues to develop her career by having opening The Nest Studio, a multifaceted business which includes the following motivation/inspirational activities in the arts such as; Painting Party Thunder Bay, Poetry Night Reading Series and Acoustic Performances. Tracy was also an original founder of The Creative art gallery as of June 2017 where she supports a variety of local artists across a variety of mediums.

Tracy’s artwork is currently displayed in Gallery 33. Throughout the summer months, her artwork can be found at artisan & craft fairs in Thunder Bay and surrounding area. She has co-ordinated painting workshops with the Adult Learning Centre, Sister Margret Smith Center, Schrieber Public Library and Gallery 33.
