It’s almost spooky season and we are busy preparing a host of autumn offerings for harvest, thanksgiving, and halloween.

You can feel the shift in the air, and every flower and hue has become much more saturated in colour. We’re moving into a season of deep burgundies and rich oranges, and sherbet coloured wisps of celosia.

Next week, the fall collection will launch, and you’ll be able to preorder Thanksgiving blooms.

In the meantime, we are open 9am-5pm! Pop in for your flower needs. Our cooler is always stocked.

It’s ruffly farm-grown lisianthus season, and this is easily one of our favourite flowers that we grow.

It lasts well over a week in a vase (sometimes 2!) and it pairs well with everything. People often think dahlias are the queen of the flowers, but I’m quickly becoming team lisi.

After a restful weekend, we’re back OPEN today from 9am-5pm with lots of fresh blooms in store.

Our gorgeous lisianthus is headed to the shop and the last tomorrow! Grab it in our mixed bunches.

We planted about 1000 lisianthus plants this year… and next season I want to add even more.

I am also going to be doing a seed save trial on this crop, which may cause me to go bug-eyed because WOW those are some small seeds (in case anyone was wondering, they come pelleted to growers for a reason.)

Lots of things to learn as we plow (ha, punny) ahead.

One of our farm projects this year is seed saving.

In an effort for the farm to become more self sufficient, we’re going to be saving seeds from our favourites:
- zinnias
- celosia
- sunflowers
- dara
- campanula
- agrostemma

… to name a few.

As we think about the direction the farm is headed, and the over-saturation of flower farms and market gardeners all growing and selling the same varieties of blooms, it’s time that we focus on diversification.

It’s not a one-season journey. This is a five year plan for self sufficiency, genome research, and trials.

It’s time to value uniqueness in nature again.

Flower subscription week and WOW I cannot get over the depth of colour to the blooms.

The rain early this week was so needed and our flowers are so so thankful.

That also means we have lots of beautiful flowers coming to the on Saturday: bouquets and mason jars FILLED with our own grown flowers.

It’s worth reminding everyone that WE grow these flowers here in Strathroy. We are the farmers. We are the florists. When you purchase our blooms, you are supporting truly local flowers.

Market flowers are picked less than 36 hours before we sell them so that they can hydrate properly and have the longest vase life for you.

They aren’t spending hours on a truck or trailer coming to our shop. They have a 7 minute journey from our farm to your table. Truly local.

We seed, plant, nurture, w**d, prune, pick, hydrate, arrange, and wrap these ourselves.

Because you deserve the best local flowers.

The weather this week has been a welcome reprieve from the summer heat. It’s giving “August at the cottage” and I think it’s made everyone a little happier.

(Me, I’m everyone.)

Appropriately, “The Cottage Garden” has been one of our best sellers since releasing this design a few weeks ago.

We love how big and bold and colourful they are, and how they’ve changed from peonies, to sunflowers, to dahlias as the season has gone on.

C + A’s tuscan inspired tablescapes came together beautifully. Grapes and all!

(And I finally remembered to dig out my fancy camera. 😅)
