4-wheel drive is required today in this snow if I’m going to be ready for the next event! This Saturday, Jan 17, MCC Toronto will commemorate and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first legal same-sex marriages in the world. Hey Lady! Catering will be catering the black & white themed reception after the main event. It’s a free event, and you are invited. (Cash bar)
Background: On January 14, 2001, MCC Toronto Senior Pastor Rev. Brent Hawkes officiated the marriage ceremonies of Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell, and Elaine and Anne Vautour, using the ancient legal tradition of reading the banns of marriage. This courageous act, performed years before same-sex marriage was recognized by governments anywhere in the world, sparked a groundbreaking legal challenge that ultimately led to civil recognition of same-sex marriage in Ontario in 2003 and across Canada in 2005.
