Why Pride Still Matters
Every year, someone asks why we still need Pride.
The answer is simple: because too many people are still taught that who they are is something to be ashamed of.
For generations, religious teachings have often been used to justify discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. Yet many historians, theologians, and scholars have shown that the anti-LGBT narratives we hear today are not nearly as clear-cut as many have been led to believe. Interpretations changed. Translations changed. Politics and culture influenced what people came to accept as religious truth.
I believe that God — Source, Creator, Universal Consciousness, whatever name you choose to use — does not create people only to reject them. If everything comes from the same Source, then every one of us is equally worthy of love, dignity, and belonging.
We have spent far too much of human history dividing ourselves into categories: race, gender, sexuality, age, nationality, ethnicity, religion, and countless others. These labels may describe our experiences, but they do not determine our worth.
At our core, we are human beings sharing the same planet and the same fundamental desire to love, be loved, and live authentically.
Pride is not about claiming superiority. It is not about excluding anyone. It is about celebrating diversity, embracing authenticity, and recognizing the unique gifts each person brings to our communities and to the world.
The rainbow reminds us that beauty is not found in uniformity. It is found in the full spectrum.
Happy Pride. 🏳️🌈❤️
