The beginnings of marigold blooms.
This is my 3rd year attempting to grow marigolds from seed. I’ve never gotten them even remotely to a bloom stage.
Last year, I failed miserably. I was able to transplant them outside; but they dried up and withered away.
This year I was ready. I sowed them earlier; I used some grow lights, and they responded well. I didn’t transplant them outside until I was absolutely certain all danger of frost was gone. I’ve been watering and monitoring.
Trust me when I say it felt like ages have passed.
But today, I can happily sit back and see the reward. These marigold are massive. Tall and sturdy. These are the first of the blooms; and 💯 you betcha I’ll be seed saving this year. To see the blooms kind of makes all the aggravation disappear from years of trying.
I believe this is what gardening is: learning, tweaking, adjusting, listening, observing…. and most of all, gardening is about patience. “Good things come to those who wait” - I think whoever coined that expression was talking about their garden.
This post is to say: don’t give up. If you’ve got the gardening woes and feel like nothing grows, all you can do is modify and try again.
I was going to throw in the towel with my marigolds, and I even bought plugs at a nursery as back-up. But I’m so glad I stuck with it and took care of my seedlings.
You really can do cool things. If you gave up on a specific seedling this year, I encourage you to try one more time next spring. But you have to at least look at what you did before and adjust. Perhaps it’ll come with rewards for you too!
