As Nikola and Attile’s wedding approached, we realized there would not be time to slip away from the reception to do a set of poetic sunset photos. Family was coming from Central and South America, and they needed to be present with loved ones who were visiting from afar. Syd and I asked if they would have time to meet up the night before to visit Mount Tolmie, a place relevant to them both, that was near the venue, and also has quite exquisite sunset views. I think it was great that we all had a chance to share such a special moment before the wedding, and that Nikola and Attile had the opportunity to dance in the winds with their capes. I really treasure the poetry that can be made when there is time to look for more cinematic and editorial style images. I hope more couples will be open to doing this kind of session in the days leading up to, or just after their wedding.
garraway has been part of the Folklore team from the beginning, and she is one of the photographers available through our curated elopement and micro wedding packages, which bring together planning support, trusted local vendors, and a photographer whose work is rooted in the Islands. Our packages cover everything from location scouting and permits to florals, officiants, and ferry logistics. We also help couples build out the days around their wedding, whether that means a quiet coastal walk, a welcome dinner, or something more specific to where they are getting married. Couples who want a more streamlined experience can choose from our curated venue packages at places like Lavender & Black, Ruckle Farm, or the Providence Sailboat. Those who want full flexibility can go the custom route and marry wherever feels right to them.

If you are drawn to Stasia’s work and want her as your photographer without the full planning package, she is also available to book independently for wedding photography. You can reach out to us to get in touch with her, or visit her page on our site to learn more about her work.

A tintype is made by hand, on the day, in front of you.

Wet plate collodion. A metal plate coated, exposed, and developed in minutes. One image. No duplicates. Just a photograph made of metal and light.

I bring this process to weddings as portrait sessions and as a photo booth. Guests watch their image come to life on metal, and receive a one-of-a-kind keepsake that lasts generations. It’s one of the best gifts you can give the people at your wedding.

2026 dates are limited. 2027 is wide open.

has been part of Salt Spring Island since 1872

It’s the oldest working family farm in the Gulf Islands, and it’s one of the places we keep coming back to.

Folklore Wedding Company offer curated wedding packages in partnership with the Ruckle Farm, ranging from simple elopements to full celebrations of up to 90 guests. Each package includes planning and coordination by our team, media coverage by our in-house photographers and filmmakers, and vendors we’ve hand-selected for the island. Florals, catering, officiant, hair and makeup, live music, the people we bring in are ones we know and trust.

Our media team covers everything from digital photography to Super 8mm film, 35mm, and handmade tintype portraits developed on-site. You get people who already know the land, the light, and how to work together.

Packages also include lodging in the farm’s heritage homes, the Alfred House and Norman House, so your wedding can stretch across a few days rather than feeling like a single rushed event.

If Ruckle isn’t the right fit, we offer the same curated approach at other venues across the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. Same team, same local vendor network, different setting.

North Vancouver Island weddings hold a kind of beauty that feels hard to put into words. Wild coastlines, old forests, open beaches, mountain air, and weather that can shift in a moment all come together to create celebrations that feel deeply connected to place. There is something about this part of the island that invites people to slow down, take it in, and make space for a wedding day that feels real, grounded, and unforgettable.

We also want to celebrate our North Vancouver Island photographer, whose work carries so much heart and care for this region. Her connection to this landscape, and the way she documents people within it, makes her such a meaningful part of what we offer here. We feel so grateful to have her on our team, helping couples preserve their wedding days in a way that feels artful, honest, and deeply rooted in the beauty of the coast.

Tucked into the quiet north end of Salt Spring Island, is a working lavender farm designed for elopements and micro weddings of up to twelve guests. It’s not a wedding venue that happens to have a nice backdrop. It’s a place built around the idea that a smaller day, done carefully, is worth more than a bigger one done broadly.

Ceremonies happen in the fields. The pace is slow. Folklore Wedding Company handles planning, photography, florals, and officiant coordination so the experience stays focused on what brought you there. The lavender is in full bloom mid-June through late July, though the farm is open for weddings year-round.

There’s something really special about holding a photograph in your hands that was made slowly, intentionally, and by hand. Our tintype wedding photography offerings at Folklore Wedding Company are for couples who want portraits that feel like true heirlooms. Using a 19th-century process, each tintype is handcrafted on metal, giving every image depth, texture, and a one-of-a-kind presence that digital simply can’t replicate.

We offer tintype wedding photography for weddings, elopements, and engagement sessions, along with a tintype photobooth experience that lets gifts guests with their own original portrait from your wedding day. Tintype coverage is booked alongside digital coverage, so your story is fully documented while also making space for something timeless, tangible, and deeply personal.

"I've always been into crafts, like my whole life. I loved art and nature and especially flowers. And then once I became a mom, I actually craved more of a slower life. I had pressed flowers before, and I just thought why not make art with it, and started exploring that way, and then it just took off a lot faster than I thought it would."

Excited to share our interview with Vancouver Island wedding flower preservationist Alicia Yamasaki of .petals_ Link in bio.

There’s something about holding a photograph made of metal and light.

of .wedding.co offers tintype portraiture for weddings, a 19th-century wet plate process that produces one-of-a-kind images, developed on the spot. No two are ever the same. Each plate carries its own texture, its own tone, its own quiet permanence.

Something your grandchildren will still be holding.
