YOU CAN HELP SAVE PITCHFORK SOCIAL
Many of you have checked in to see what’s happening with PitchFork Social this year. It’s been lovely to hear from you and yes – we’ll all miss the shows this summer. Obviously, we’ll be abiding by pandemic protocols and there will not be a season. Artists are not touring as large gatherings are still prohibited. This is a tough time for touring musicians but on the bright side, many are writing and collaborating at a distance and we expect lots of great new music to hit our ears later this year.
We are working on securing a beautiful new venue for Summer 2021. This will be a purpose-built barn on the site of The Cottages on Salt Spring. The Cottages has been a generous sponsor of PitchFork Social for three years and have offered to host our series next year. We’re excited to once again bring artists to an intimate new space that reflects the quality of the talent we attract -- and the musicians you've discovered through PitchFork Social are yearning to return to their Salt Spring fans. We received many messages and emails last year regarding the move the Fulford Hall. While the Hall is legendary and well-loved event space on this island, it was not the atmosphere our fans and musicians were accustomed to, and the season brought us a nearly devastating loss of revenue due to poor ticket sales. We want you to know we've listened to requests to relocate to a better venue and are doing all we can to ensure that happens -- but we really need your help.
The Cottages is working with the Islands Trust on a Temporary Use Permit that would allow us to host 10-12 concerts per year. The new event space will not use any onsite water, all parking will be within the property boundaries in the designated parking lot and all shows will end by 10 pm. You know from attending our previous shows that the volume is not loud – these are Americana, roots-based concerts and they are held indoors.
The Temporary Use Permit process is now underway and we are gathering letters of support to ensure we can launch a season in 2021. Here is how you can help us:
Write a letter of support addressed to the Salt Spring Land Trust Committee, outlining why you support PitchFork Social and the benefits our music series brings to the community. If you require more information or guidelines for your letter, please email me: [email protected]
Please send your letters of support to the Salt Spring Land Trust Committee by May 15th, 2020 to the following email addresses:
