I have a confession: I've been Mom-ing it hard the last seven years. I went to my first punk show (Punkfest, it was f*cking amazing) in a decade last Saturday and had serious pre-show glow going on. Does anyone else get that giddy feeling before going to a show?
Punkfest reminded me of my WHY, it renewed something in me that had been laying dormant and felt neglected since my new life era-- a sense of self and a sense of community and belonging.
Society often looks at punks as the underbelly of society-- to be feared and treated with stigma-- nothing could be further from the truth though. You matter at the show, everyone is there TOGETHER, everyone looks out for each other, and you're with the least judgemental, most authentic & accepting community I've ever known.
With all the crazy in the world right now, we need Punk more than ever, and I'm not talking fashion (though I f*cking LOVE punk fashion). I'm talking mindset.
I hope Lilah & Belle's Haunted Riot can pull off 1/10th what Punkfest did to serve the rock community and that this event can be a part of Pembroke's Punk Rock Revival.
I humbly title this journal entry: "Moms Who Still Love to Mosh."
