Memories of Japan inspired this street scene and it is starting to come alive.
I am drawn to the movement of people and the glow of city lights reflecting off wet pavement.
At this stage, I am focusing on layering color and atmosphere letting the figures emerge through gesture rather than detail. It is less about capturing a specific place, and more about evoking a moment of attention within the chaos.

Oil paint has a quiet luminosity I keep coming back to, it lets the figure dissolve into the atmosphere, held together by shifts of light and shadow.
This piece feels softer to me than Babel, painted years ago, a reflection of change over time. The iceberg stands for hardship, while the figures mark a moment of release, of warmth returning, of spring beginning again. #
