It’s never boring at 99 Rows.
After the cold snap in January 2024, like many vineyards in the Valley, we lost 1,700 vines. The cost to replace them was too high, but just like every other part of this venture, we rolled up our sleeves and found a new way forward. We propagated our own vines. 🍇
Using cuttings from healthy Pinot Gris, we built a hydroponic system in our greenhouse to give our new vines a place to grow roots. Out of 1,000 cuttings, an incredible 89% took, and a few months later, we planted them in the dirt.
So far, the results have been amazing. Seeing shoots pop up is the best kind of hope, and we’re excited for what’s to come, for us, for other vineyard, and the industry as a whole.
We’re strong believers that the future of farming is innovation, and we’re testing the theory one propagated plant at a time. 🌱
