Pictured here is Eastcourt, once located at 770 Main street east and constructed for John and Adelaide Hoodless circa 1890. The property for this magnificent estate was subdivided off for other homes. By 1914 it became the Eastcourt apartments. This image is from 1899. After years of neglect the home was demolished in 1970 and St. Columba School was built on the site.

Adelaide Hoodless was the first woman employed by the Ontario Government to promote domestic science. Mrs. Hoodless also helped found the Y.W.C.A.s, V.O.N., National Council of Women of Canada, Macdonald Institutes, Schools of Household Science at McGill and Toronto Universities and, with Mr. And Mrs. Erland Lee, the Women's Institutes.
