Huge congrats to Cindy! 🎓

She’s been with the LIVELab since 2021 as a work-study student. You’ve probably seen her around leading tours, behind the scenes at concerts, or running research participants!

Cindy has officially graduated this year and we couldn’t be prouder 💛 We’re going to miss her so much… she’s been such a thoughtful, reliable, and all-around amazing research student!

Last week we ran our Motion Capture course at the LIVELab!

Students got hands-on experience with every step of the process — from setting up motion capture and running a dance-based experiment, to analyzing the data in MATLAB.

A fun opportunity to explore how movement becomes data, and what that can tell us about human behaviour!

Last week, we wrapped up an incredible two-week workshop where students explored how to collect and analyze brainwave data. The workshop ended with a research showcase where they presented projects they developed from scratch 🧠🧠🧠

Huge congrats to all the participants — fantastic job! ⚡👏

Over the past week, our students have been learning how to record brain activity using EEG 🧠 Yesterday’s session featured a hands-on lesson in capping, led by our incredible tech team Dan and Hany!

EEG (electroencephalography) is a non-invasive method of measuring the brain’s electrical activity. It helps us study different mental states—like focus or relaxation—and how the brain locks into rhythms in music, or even with other people during shared experiences 🎶👥

🎬 Swipe to see some real-time brainwaves captured right here in the LIVELab!

Behind the scenes of the Federal Leaders’ Debate study 🗳️✨

This past week, we ran a special live study of voters as they watched the federal leaders’ debate at . In collaboration with and the LIVELab, we monitored participants’ eye gaze and heart rates in real time during the debate. Participants also completed surveys before and after the session.

This research helps us better understand the audience experience of the debate — how we focus, react, and form opinions about what we see on stage.

Huge thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, and helped bring this to life! We’re so excited to dive into the data 🧠📊
