Last June’s celebration for Darwin & Joanna was a beautiful blend of tradition, elegance, and modern romance 🤍❤️

We are still completely in love with their tea ceremony photos. The richness of the red, the intricate details, the quiet, meaningful moments shared with family — it was powerful and deeply moving. In many Chinese wedding traditions, red symbolizes happiness, prosperity, good fortune, and joy. It’s bold, vibrant, and full of life — just like the start of a marriage.

A traditional tea ceremony is one of the most meaningful parts of a Chinese wedding day. The couple serves tea to their parents and elders as a gesture of gratitude, respect, and unity between families. In return, they receive blessings, well wishes, and often symbolic gifts. It’s intimate, emotional, and rooted in honoring generations before them — something we feel so privileged to witness as a wedding planning team.

Darwin & Joanna’s Calgary wedding was the perfect example of how cultural wedding traditions and modern design can come together seamlessly. From their stunning red attire to the heartfelt family moments, every detail was intentional and full of meaning.

Last wedding season taught us something important: the smallest details make the biggest difference on your wedding day 🤍

After coordinating multiple Edmonton and Alberta weddings, here are 4 lessons we now guide every couple through:

1️⃣ Handle vendor payments early.
Pay your wedding vendors before your wedding day — or schedule payments for the morning of. We’ve seen incorrect transfers happen because couples were distracted while getting ready. Your focus should be on marrying your fiancé, not moving money between bank accounts.

2️⃣ Tell us who your VIPs are.
As your wedding coordination team, we want to treat your immediate family and wedding party like VIPs. If we don’t know who they are ahead of time, we can’t greet them personally or ensure prime seating. We’ve even seen close family placed at the back of the room. The more we know, the more seamless and personalized your wedding feels.

3️⃣ Your timeline protects your peace.
When we ask about your wedding day timeline, it’s not to overwhelm you. It ensures proper photography time, built in breathing room between major moments, and confirmed vendor arrival/departure times. A well structured timeline keeps your wedding day flowing smoothly and stress-free.

4️⃣ Rehearse the entire ceremony.
Wedding party. Family. Officiant. DJ. Coordinator. Everyone.
Knowing the cues of when to walk, when to change music, what will be said — it all eliminates confusion and awkward pauses. A full rehearsal sets the tone for a calm, confident ceremony.
