I could barely see my camera through my own tears while Garrett’s father read him a letter - written by his late mother - to be shared on the day of his wedding.

Every once in a while, as filmmakers we come across a moment that’s so sacred, so beautiful, and so intimate that time almost stops. This was one of those moments. There was literally not a dry eye in the room.

Kallie & Garrett so graciously told me they’d be happy to share this moment, knowing that it would resonate with so many who’ve experienced the heartache of missing a loved one on their wedding day.

To be honest, I’d never filmed a wedding ceremony quite like Daria & Brandon’s before, and I’m still honoured that they trusted me with it. It was incredibly beautiful, rich with religious tradition, and a fusion of Ukrainian Catholic and Scottish elements.

The intro to the film incorporates Celtic music with the actual liturgical chants that were sung during the ceremony, as tribute to both of their families’ heritage.

These types of details are the reason I only film 20 weddings per year ✨

I often think about this day. and I, along with had the honour of documenting this island wedding. On the day of, a hurricane passed by the island. For real. A hurricane. Everything worked out, and Kait made serious magic happen co-ordinating it all, but looking back I find an interesting dynamic between the contrasting beauty and chaos. I feel like this intro of their film captured that paradox well.
