🎵✨ Get Ready for a Night of Pure 90s Magic! ✨🎵

On October 17th, the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre is thrilled to host two iconic voices of the 90s: Sophie B. Hawkins and Paula Cole! Get ready to sing along to the soundtracks of your memories and discover new favourites from these incredible artists.

Today, let's dive into the extraordinary career of Sophie B. Hawkins!

You know her smash hits like the iconic "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" and the record-breaking "As I Lay Me Down" – which spent an astounding 67 weeks on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, including six weeks at #1! But Sophie B. Hawkins is so much more than her beloved anthems.

From the very start of her musical journey, Sophie has been a force of uncompromising truth, endlessly transcending boundaries. She famously defied categorization, embracing her individuality and fluidity as a musician, even working with creative jazz musicians on her debut album Tongues and Tails. She also bravely challenged norms of gender expression and sexual orientation long before it was widely accepted, making her a true trailblazer.

Did you know her songs have recently been featured in cultural touchstone TV shows like Stranger Things, Euphoria, Ozark, and PEN15, proving her timeless appeal? She even starred as Janis Joplin in the critically acclaimed musical Room105!

Sophie's newest music, culminating in an album released in Spring 2023, features some of her most emotionally powerful material, rooted in her raw, poetic lyrics and effortlessly captivating vocals. She's currently on the road celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Tongues and Tails, and her live show is known for being utterly spellbinding, blurring the lines between audience and performer.

Don't miss the chance to experience Sophie B. Hawkins's dynamic stage presence and soulful music live, alongside the equally incredible Paula Cole. This is more than just a concert; it's a celebration of artistic integrity and enlightenment.

Get ready for an incredible evening of dance! Ballet Kelowna presents "The Cowboy Act Suite and Other Works," a stunning program featuring three signature contemporary ballet pieces that will captivate you.

Experience Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe’s compelling taqəš [tawKESH], meaning “to return something” in Ayajuthem. This powerful work blends classical ballet with traditional Coast Salish, Grass, and Hoop Dance. Set to music by Polaris Prize-winner Jeremy Dutcher, taqəš tells the traditional story of “Raven Returns the Water,” centered around ῤoho (raven) and walθ (frog).

Next, prepare to be mesmerized by former National Ballet of Canada Choreographic Associate Guillaume Côté’s fascinating interpretation of Maurice Ravel's beloved Bolero. Described as a “riveting tour de force” by Dance Magazine, this piece features breathtaking lifts and virtuosic choreography.

Rounding out the program is Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe's satirical "The Cowboy Act Suite." This insightful work explores the "Cowboys and Indians" dichotomy, flipping the script to ask: what happens when an Indian directs the Cowboys through their history?

This high-energy program promises to please a wide range of spectators! Prepare to be amazed! Grab your tickets for these three spectacular shows – an experience you won't want to miss.
