Happy International Paper Flower Day!

It’s almost 10 years since I first discovered paper flowers. What started off as more of a challenge to myself, (can I actually make a pretty flower out of just paper?) has turned into more than I ever could of dreamed of. It brings me so much joy anytime someone tells me they made their first paper flower from one of my tutorials. (Especially when they come back to make more!) I’m honoured to be part of such a special growing community of paper florists. Thank you for being here with me.

A really easy way to make your paper flowers last longer is to cover them in a layer of UV art spray. It creates a protective barrier on your flower, makes it a little bit harder so it’s less likely to get damaged, and helps stop fading from sunlight. And it only takes a couple of minutes to do!

I really like this UV spray by but I know it can be tricky to get hold of sometimes. You want to look for a matte finish UV spray that’s designed for artwork. Something for setting pastels usually works great.

Make sure to do this in a well ventilated area, outside is best if you can. I always wash my hands immediately after too.

I often second guess myself when I get caught in the little details of a paper flower. This is taking too long, I should stop. No one will see it anyway. No one else even cares! But the thing is - I will know. And even if not even a single other person notices the difference, I’m happier knowing I didn’t give in to those niggling doubts, and actually created something that is more realistic, more like nature, something that makes me happy. What do you think, is the extra detail worth it?
