I have often been asked how I came up with the name Pink Boots Flowers

My grandparents are two of my biggest influences for flowers and my garden.

The name Pink Boots Flowers actually came to mind rather quickly. I was trying to figure out a name for my flower business and was reminded of all the time I spent at my grandparents farm.

I remember my mom telling me when I was little she would come to pick me up I was wearing my pink rubber boots. I wore them EVERYWHERE. Whenever I was able to be my Opa’s little shadow around the farm, I had pink boots on.

Pink Boots Flowers stuck and although I don’t have the pink boots anymore I am fond of the memories they bring and joy I hope my business name is able to bring others.

I have been intentionally quiet on here for the past little while. I am watching other growers start to have beautiful flowers in their gardens and have bouquets to sell, and mine just aren’t there yet.

Comparison really is the thief of joy, and I am guilty of comparing my garden and flowers to others🤷🏼‍♀️

The heat we have had the last number of weeks has caused some short stems and flowers that I would’ve had, to bloom way too fast.

Things aren’t all grim though. There’s buds coming, dahlias are looking pretty good and the snaps are just starting to peep open. Soon I will have beautiful blooms to share as well!

This photo from my zinnia patch last year has me looking forward to having blooms again soon!

I’ve been a bit MIA on here lately and wanted to share an update. I got my garden in before the heat this week came. The dahlias and amaranth were loving the 33+C weather we had and some of the cooler weather plants were not quite as happy. I’ve made a makeshift shade cloth for the ranunculus and anemones and am sure hoping they make it through this heat wave. As well as the flowers, the weeds have jumped this week too so I will be busy weeding. It feels so nice to have things growing again!

I’d like to take a little time to share what and who helped influence me to start growing and selling my own cut flowers. My Opa and Oma were two of my biggest influences. I fondly think of them in the garden. It was my Oma’s happy place and my Opa was always willing to help her with whatever needed to be done. They attended the Lethbridge Farmers Market for 40 years selling vegetables, flowers and eggs. I always remember many people swooning over my Oma’s beautiful flowers and her gladiolus sold out weekly. She could grow literally anything and was quite fond of compliments on her amazing ability. She shared some of her tips and tricks but most were learned by helping and spending time with her. My Opa was one of the kindest, most patient men I know. He loved the social aspect of going to the market weekly and was a true people person. I enjoyed spending time with them both in the garden and at the market. I am thankful I inherited my Oma’s love of flowers and my Opa’s outgoing nature.

I have been seeing so many gorgeous tulips from other growers start to come across my feed. I am planning to have tulips for next spring but I can’t decide which varieties are my favourite. Can you help me decide? Click through my stories and vote for your favourites!

A little something pretty to brighten this dreary Sunday!
It has been a busy weekend here for me between potting up seedlings and dahlias, starting more seeds, soaking some more ranunculus to pre sprout and the light shuffle has begun here. I have also been working on some very exciting things subscription wise and for this summer! There’s still a bit of work to do but I am so excited to share it with you soon!
