Happy Lunar New Year! Welcome, Year of the Snake!🧧🐍

So much fun making Year of the Snake Yu Sheng (5th pic). Kept it veggie-friendly by omitting the fish, but got that yù, (裕 meaning prosperity) in there anyway (fish-shaped plate holding the crushed peanuts!) and the 甜蜜蜜 from maple syrup instead of honey. 🥗🥢

(And oh how I miss ! Made pineapple paste from scratch out of two fresh pineapples boiling away on the stove for an hour (last frame) and it only yielded enough pineapple jam for 30 ! 🍍Also misplaced my pineapple tart cutter so I had to make each indent on the tarts one by one☝️😅)

Since he’s a Christmas baby, the cake is a vanilla fruit cake, in Christmas-coloured fruit (strawberry-kiwi) 🍓🥝

💜Ube desserts featured in our Christmas gatherings this year! Glad they were well-received by family and friends:

• Ube Basque burnt cheesecake - like eating ube ice cream, with an oozy, creamy centre and an extra flavour dimension thanks to the caramelized surface.

• Ube tiramisu - a tasty change-up from the usual coffee flavours in a traditional tiramisu. It’s an interesting combination of ube, espresso, and coconut milk-soaked lady fingers, sandwiched between silky layers of mascarpone cheese-ube halaya whipped cream. The powdered ube topping added even more ube flavour and a nice textural contrast.💜

Smashing our way into 2023! 🥳

May the new year bring you love, peace, good health, success, and happiness! Thank you to all of you that have supported my business, near and far. Grateful for each and every one of you. 💙

2022 has definitely been an interesting year of ups and downs. The world was topsy turvy for us for a while: growing pains, mid-life realizations, saying goodbye to a successful home-baking business that I grew from the ground up in Singapore, leaving family, friends, and long-time clients and partners in the life we’ve known for the past 15 years, moving across the globe (in two phases!), working through challenges together, adapting to our new environment, starting new jobs, purchasing our very first place in Canada, and finally settling home. Thankfully, the year finished on an up for us. The kids are doing great. We’ve reconnected with family and friends here. Work has more or less been smooth sailing. I’ve started baking again here and there, and even got to do my first holiday pop-up! So far, life has been a precarious balancing act and I’m still trying to work out how to best keep our family of six full and happy. I can’t wait for what the new year will bring. Joyful, exciting, fun, stressful, happy, sad…come what may, we will do this together. Hellloooo 2023!
