Nature Conservation Day (July 28) is a reminder of the role we all play in protecting the natural spaces that sustain us.

At the Tiffin Centre for Conservation, we’re proud to be part of a network of protected lands that provide habitat for wildlife, improve water quality, and offer a place for people to connect with nature.

Whether you’re hiking a trail, planting a tree, or learning about wetlands, every small action helps conserve our shared environment.

Sneak peek from today’s wedding at Tiffin!

We’re really loving the trend of using planters for reusable florals. It’s such a beautiful and sustainable choice. We can easily picture these being planted in a garden and becoming a lasting reminder of the day.

Congratulations, A & R. We’re looking forward to a wonderful celebration!

Hot days ahead!
If you're planning to hit the trails during this stretch of hot weather, please plan ahead:

- Walk early or later in the day
- Stick to shaded trails
- Bring plenty of water for you (and your pup)
- Watch for signs of heat exhaustion

Even a short hike can feel longer when the weather's this warm. Take it slow, stay hydrated, and enjoy the shade!

We’re still swooning over the details from S & N’s wedding last Saturday!

From an intimate ceremony beneath the maple canopy to a forest feast that looked like it was straight out of a fairytale, every moment was filled with love and thoughtful touches. Guests ended the night gathered around the fire, under the night sky and surrounded by trees.

Shoutout to .rentals for the harvest tables and chairs, and to for the fun mixed vintage plates that added so much charm.

Congratulations on your beautiful wedding, S & N. We’re so glad you chose to celebrate with us!

Couples getting married at Tiffin love the outdoors, and it shows in the little details!

This pretty setup featured soft pink napkins, wood slice centrepieces, and tree-themed table names like “Cedar Table.” We’ve also seen tables named after favourite birds, camping parks, flowers, and hiking trails. It’s such a fun way to make the day feel personal and playful.

Happy Snake Day! 🐍

We’re especially excited to celebrate Snake Day this year, as our education department has chosen the snake as their Animal of the Year for 2025. Which means kids will be learning all about these cool creatures and their benefits to our ecosystems.

Spotted at the Tiffin Centre: eastern gartersnakes catching some sun up in a tree! These snakes are the most common in our area and can sometimes be seen in surprising places.

Other local species include:
- Dekay’s brownsnake
- Northern red-bellied snake
- Eastern milksnake
- Northern ring-necked snake
- Smooth greensnake
- Eastern ribbonsnake
- Northern watersnake

Snakes are an important part of the ecosystem and help control pests like slugs and rodents. Most are shy and harmless to humans. If you see one on the trail, give it space and enjoy the moment.

Ceremony site spotlight!

One of our favourite things about weddings at Tiffin is how different each one feels. A big part of that comes from the flexibility couples have in choosing their ceremony spot.

Some head to the Maple Valley clearing for the quiet and the tall trees. Others choose the Outdoor Classroom, not just as a backup for rain, but because of its forest backdrop and rustic feel. The Baby Bear gazebo and bridge both offer open spaces with water features, suitable for a variety of group sizes and styles.

We love seeing how each couple makes the space their own!

At just three months old, Sky is already learning the ropes on the Maple Valley Trail! Tiffin’s trails are a great place to explore with your pup and to work on good trail manners.

Please remember to keep your dog leashed at all times. Off-leash dogs, even friendly ones, can be intimidating to other visitors and their pets. Always pick up after your dog and yield to others so everyone can enjoy a safe and welcoming experience on the trails.

Good luck to everyone participating in the N89 Backyard Ultra at Tiffin this weekend!

If you are planning on visiting the Conservation Area, please be aware that runners will be on our trails Friday - Sunday. Be sure to give them lots of space as they complete the Backyard Ultra!

It's turtle nesting season!

From late spring into early summer, turtles across Ontario are on the move, searching for a safe place to lay their eggs. At Tiffin, you may spot them near gravel paths, sandy soil or sunny clearings.

If you see a turtle on the trail, give it space and time to go about its important work. Only move a turtle if it is in immediate danger, such as on a road, and always help it continue in the direction it was heading.

Turtles are a vital part of wetland ecosystems, but all eight native species in Ontario are now considered at risk.

You can help by driving carefully near wetlands, avoiding disturbance to turtle nests and reporting sightings to groups like the Scales Nature Park.

With care and awareness, we can help more hatchlings make it safely into the world.
