NEVER ONE OF US

Our love for the Polish hardcore scene runs deep. We're thrilled to see a new band with some familiar faces emerge: ENERGY JAR ()

We caught up with JP to dive into what ENERGY JAR is all about:

"Energy Jar is a band from Wroclaw, Poland. We started in December 2024 when JP joined forces with Mac (both also in Heavy Runner and formerly of Last Dayz), Krystian (Lie After Lie), and Oskar (Surowica). We quickly wrote a couple of songs, recorded a short demo, and recently played our first show.

With the current resurgence of beatdown and metal-influenced sounds, we decided to take a different route and explore other inspirations we've had for a while. The most obvious influences you'll hear on the demo are Bad Brains and early Cro-Mags, but we also like to incorporate non-hardcore jams here and there, as well as a d-beat part reminiscent of something you'd find on an Anti-Cimex album.

We stand for what we always have: the hardcore community, resisting the commercialization of our culture, and opposing the far-right and the growing influence of big business on our daily lives.

In the near future, our plan is to work on new music, potentially record an 8–10 track album, and, of course, play some shows in the meantime."

PLEASE DIE!

📸 AMERICAN NIGHTMARE (), at the legendary Linfabriek, Belgium. First tour, November 16th 2001. Captured by

This November, American Nightmare is set to make their return to Europe with an exclusive performance at the Revolution Calling Festival ().

Under the AMERICAN NIGHTMARE or GIVE UP THE GHOST moniker and later with their reunion, the band has made Europe a regular part of their story. American Nightmare's legacy lies in their raw, stripped-back hardcore sound and the deeply personal lyrics of frontman Wesley Eisold. They seamlessly fuse the unfiltered intensity of hardcore punk with the atmospheric, melancholic influences of bands like Joy Division and The Smiths. Exploring themes of vulnerability, resilience, and mental health, American Nightmare remains as impactful and relevant today as they were with their debut release.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL

Still buzzing from IMPACT's show yesterday! It was their second show. We had a chat with our man Paul to introduce the band:

"We are Impact, a Dutch hardcore band, with members who played in several hardcore bands before, but also members having their roots in pop punk. We got Kaj on bass, Kevin and Luca on guitars, Luca doing backing vocals too, Floris on drums and Paul singing. We started jamming two years ago without a specific sound in mind. Instead, we focused on creating music we loved.

Our sound can't be confined to one genre or movement, though hardcore is our core. We blend melodic hardcore with metal, beatdown, and metalcore elements, and even throw in some clean vocals here and there.

We make music our way: hard, mean, and tough, without sticking to one style. Whether it's a metal riff or a pop-punk chorus, if it feels right, we play it.

Our lyrics are personal yet critical of society and the world around us."

Thanks Paul!

PRICE OF PROGRESS

We had a quick talk with Poland's up and coming hardcore outfit :

"We are Vehement: we're a band of 5 guys who love playing hardcore and spreading raw energy! Over the years, we've had a few lineup changes, but the current crew is: Filip (guitar), Noras (guitar), Adam (bass), Snake (vocals), and Pepe (drums). Most of us have a long history together, playing in various bands and seeing each other at concerts.

What brought us together? Boredom during the COVID lockdown was the spark, but our true drive comes from the passion to create something new while honoring the old-school vibe. You’ll hear those classic inspirations in our upcoming album, "Collision Course," dropping this March via Enigmatic Records ().

We recorded each track to resonate with our tastes first and foremost, and if others dig it too, that’s a bonus! Stay tuned for a few shows where we’ll debut some new tunes. And hey, if you want to see us live in your city, hit us up! We’re all in.

WE ARE THE UGLY AND PROUD

Undoubtedly, SHEER TERROR epitomizes hardcore. They exude anger, negativity, and unapologetic energy, yet paradoxically offer an always exhilarating experience. In 2012, I flew with a group of friends to Wrocław, Poland to see SHEER TERROR. Although the original Wrocław show was canceled and rescheduled in Bydgoszc, we persevered, renting a car for a four-hour return drive. Despite the low turnout and Sheer Terror’s exhaustion from their German shows (and alleged partying), the trip turned out to be an unforgettable experience—a perfect blend of great friends, memorable moments, and an outstanding performance by SHEER TERROR and the Reverend Paul Bearer.

Like it or not we are here to stay!

SHEER TERROR ( ), April 22nd 2012, Bydgoszc Poland.

RUINS (BE) - LET LIGHT REIGN
"Judge and let thyself be judged, for it is thy right as a being of free will. Yet live a goodly life so that ye may judge fairly and should you be falsely judged by others, it shall matter not"

Words to be found inside the RUINS demo, vertically aligned on the inside of a blackened, inverted cross.

Although short-lived, RUINS was a promising and at the time immensely popular band from the Limburg hardcore scene in the Eastern parts of Belgium.

Featuring members of "From My Hands" (RIP), they delivered a heavily 90's metalcore / H8000 inspired sound. And that, one must still admit approx. 15 years later, they did very well.

Their live shows were awesome, obviously due to their own songs but also because they had a good taste (and the required musical abilities) when it came to some great covers of e.g. "Retribution" by 90s LB hc-heroes Kindred (a personal favorite at the TriedNTrie HQ) as well an excellent rendition of "Age Of Quarrel" by the Cro-Mags.

A self-titled demo cassette with hand printed sleeves (2008, released by Thrown Back Demotapes) unfortunately is the only tangible release to back their oeuvre.

Members went on to play in Belgian screamo-influenced band "Midnight Souls" and an Indie rock band called "The Pilot Light", both now defunct.

Their singer Daan Gielis was loved in the Belgian HC and art scene - a talented artist himself beyond the realm of music alone - and was involved in projects at the academic art-school PXL () among other endeavors. But after surviving major open heart surgeries for an auto-immune condition, sadly passed away in 2023 at only 34 years of age.

The demo ends with the singalong "LET LIGHT REIGN, LET LIGHT REIGN OVER".

Members:
Daan Gielis, Joris Vanthienen, Nick "Smellie" Smeyers, Thomas Sassi

AT WAR WITH THE WORLD
"This is the group that never compromised and never ever backed down. With FURY OF FIVE at any moment it could go off big tíme.

A look, a stare, an attítude... see ya pal.
I hope your insurance is paid up.

(...)

Self destruction was eminent, It was really just a matter of tíme..

But in the end who really gives a f**k.

We went around the world and had some good times and that's really where it's at. This is the band that took no s**t (Or what they thought was s**t) from anybody. Whether you were in a band (especially if you were in a band), a bouncer in a club, or just an everyday fool who can't keep your mouth shut yourass would get f**king taxed. It kept things lively that's for sure.

But when you live by the sword of course you die by the sword as well. In the end all of Fury's violent exploits painted them into a corner. There was just nowhere to go. It's hard to be a band when clubs don't want you to play since you put a bunch of their bouncers in the hospital. So there you have it."

🌑💥FALLS OF TORMENT💥🌑
"We [LIAR H8000] started rehearsing somewhere in 1994, right after the split of WHEEL OF PROGRESS, we wanted to continue playing the more metal oriented stuff [...]. CONGRESS and BLINDFOLD were our other bands, and LIAR was started as a fun project without the intention of doing a lot of gigs or recording something. That turned out differently of course."
Short introduction to the inception of a band that would end up being one of the most influential Belgian HC acts in the mid- to late 90's, carrying the H8000 torch to Japan and beyond. Full interview w/vocalist Hans Verbeke+ guitarist Josh Fury Official in TNT issue #⃣2⃣ 📝📝
