Whisky Wednesday is a thing! On the first Wednesday of every month, the fine guys from QLD Malt Whisky Society host an educational and tasty night of unique whisky varieties 🥃

For August, we sampled a range of “Glens”, from rare, sold out vault releases to rich, wine finished gems. The lineup showcased the incredible depth of traditional Scottish distilling. Here’s what we sipped:

🥃 Glen Moray Shiraz Finish - Sweet orchard fruits meet rich, spicy Australian red wine casks.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Glenglassaugh Revival - A coastal single malt packed with sea air, sherry notes, and ripe plums.
🥃 Glenturret 12 Year Old (2022 Release) - A rare, sold-out masterpiece featuring heavy oak and sweet ginger cake (my fave!)
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Glenfarclas Club Exclusive - A bespoke, sherried powerhouse bottled specially for QMWS members.
🥃 Glenfiddich 15 Year Old (Perpetual Collection) - Complex, non-stop finish created using a continuously filled Solera vat.

Tag a whisky lover and join the club! Thanks for hosting us The Whisky Scribe | Whisky Reviews & Tastings QMWS Grand Central Sept. ...

Most people know Switzerland for chocolate, watches and the Alps... but whisky?

And what about Liechtenstein? Did you even know they make whisky?

I put these two tiny neighbouring countries head-to-head.

Switzerland is represented by Seven Seals' Sherry Wood Finish, while Liechtenstein enters the ring with a mystery single malt from Telser Distillery. It seemed fitting, since these two countries never got the chance to face each other at the World Cup!

One whisky was a classic, well-balanced sherry-matured dram. The other... let's just say there was a very clear winner.

Have you ever tried whisky from either Switzerland or Liechtenstein? I'd love to hear what you thought!

Heaps Good Spirits just released their new whisky and coffee based liquer; Barrel Brew. They sent me a bottle to play with so I thought it was appropriate to make some heaps good whisky cocktails.

I toyed around with a few different mixes, including:

🥃 An Old Fashioned
🍋 A Whisky Sour (finally made an un-botched version)
☕ A Hot Toddy
🍸 An Espresso Martini
🥂 Even a Highball and a Whisky & Dry

A big thanks to Heaps Good Spirits for sending me a bottle to try. As always, all opinions are my own.

And let me know what cocktail you would make with a whisky coffee liqueur? I'm always looking for new ideas to try.

How many tries to make a Whisky Sour? 😅🥃

Let’s just say… more than one.

Once I finally stopped making a mess, I put together one of my favourite cocktails using the new Barrel Brew whisky coffee liqueur from Heaps Good Spirits. Swapping the sugar syrup for Barrel Brew adds a rich coffee note that works surprisingly well with the citrus and whisky.

If you’d like to see how the rest of the cocktails turned out—including an Old Fashioned, Hot Toddy and Espresso Martini—the full review is now live via the link in my bio.

A big thanks to Heaps Good Spirits for sending me a bottle to try. As always, all opinions are my own.
