John Rice Photographer Camera-shy? Hate having your photo taken? Hey there! No stiff poses or awkward smiles - just you legends being yourselves in places you absolutely love.

You're my kind of people! 👋 I'm your Margaret River mate who turns wedding photography into an actual fun day out (no awkward poses or forced smiles here!) Promise you'll be laughing too much to feel awkward! 😊 I'm John - your Margaret River mate who happens to be absolutely stoked about capturing wild-in-love couples having the time of their lives! 🌊
When I'm not chasing epic sunset shots or help

ing camera-shy couples crack up laughing, you'll find me:

Surfing our gorgeous coastline (usually badly, but enthusiastically!)
Living the good life with my awesome tribe of kids, wife, and our crazy-but-loveable menagerie of pets
Growing veggies that sometimes actually survive 😅
Hunting down Margaret River's best drops of red (it's research, I swear!)

But here's what really gets me excited - creating those 'holy moly, is that really us?!' moments for couples who usually dodge the camera faster than a roo dodges headlights! Whether you're planning an intimate shindig or a full-blown celebration, my style is all about catching those belly-laugh moments, happy tears, and spontaneous hugs that tell your real story. Think of me as your personal adventure buddy with a camera - I'm here to make sure your wedding photos are as fun to create as they are to look back on (and trust me, they'll be ripper!)

Reckon we might be a good fit? Chuck me a message - I'd love to hear what kind of magic you're planning! ✨

Planning a Margaret River elopement from Sydney or Melbourne?
This is what I do. You tell me roughly what you're after. I sort the locations, the permits, the celebrant, the florist, the hair and makeup, the timeline. You book your flights and show up.
That's it.
DM me or hit the link in bio. Happy to jump on a call this week ☀️

Most people who book me say the same thing before their elopement.
"We're not really photo people."
Most of them say something very different afterwards.
If you hate being photographed, I am genuinely your person. Reportage style, minimal direction, zero awkward posing. Just two people having an amazing day. DM me

Unpopular opinion: the best time to get married is a Tuesday afternoon in March or April.
Fewer people. Better vendor availability. Wind has settled. Golden hour hits Sugarloaf Rock like this every single time.
I have limited autumn dates left for 2027. DM me if one of them is yours.

Bunker Bay, Margaret River. The kind of evening where nobody wants to leave.
I have been photographing elopements here for over a decade and this location still stops me in my tracks.
DM me if you want to get married here. 🌿

This is what happens when two people trust the process and just go with it.
No posing. No direction. Just two people on some rocks at Canal Rocks, Yallingup, doing whatever felt right.
I walked around them for about ten minutes. This is what I got. 📷

I genuinely cannot explain what the light does here in winter.
You just have to stand in it.

Fifteen minutes after their ceremony, standing on a beach in Margaret River. That's it. That's the whole plan.
No spreadsheets. No vendor calls. No chasing quotes from six different suppliers. One conversation with me, one payment, and on the day they just showed up.
If that sounds like your kind of wedding, DM me.

Boranup Forest might be the most magical place on earth to get married. Ancient karri trees, cathedral light, and that smell after rain. If you know, you know.

Here is the part that makes it even better. Only one ceremony is permitted per day at each location. Your date. Your clearing. Your own private patch of ancient Western Australia. No other couple anywhere near you.

Bring your arch, your chairs, your rug, your favourite playlist. Then absolutely bring cake. Bubbles too. A picnic on the forest floor after your vows is one of the great ways to spend an afternoon.

Skip the confetti. The forest soil is delicate. Honestly though, when the light comes through those trees the way it does, you will not be thinking about confetti for a single second.

Finish the day at Hamelin Bay as the sun goes down and you have one of the great elopement days on the planet. I handle every permit and every detail for both locations. You just show up and get married.

Full guide at the link in bio. DM me to check your date ✨

Eight weeks from right now, you could be married at Sugarloaf Rock. Here's what that actually looks like when I run the whole thing.

Week 1-2: I Book Your Dream Team Celebrant. Florist. Hair and makeup. Styling elements. All of it. I also help you choose your ceremony location across Margaret River and the South West, then map a portrait session that works with the light and the landscape.

Week 3-4: I Handle Your Legal Paperwork Your celebrant needs your Notice of Intended Marriage lodged at least one month before the wedding. I coordinate that with them directly. You bring your three forms of ID and proof of residency. That's your entire job in this phase.

Week 5-6: I Build Your Complete Timeline Every vendor receives a call sheet from me. Hair and makeup start time. Ceremony time. Portrait session locations. Permit windows. The whole day, written out and distributed. No one is guessing.

Week 7: I Organise Your Permits Shire of Augusta Margaret River permit? $156, covers three hours. I apply and pay. DBCA National Park permit? Free, but the application needs eight weeks' notice. I submit it. You don't touch any permit paperwork.

Week 8: You Show Up and Get Married That's it. Every vendor is briefed. Your timeline is confirmed. Your permits are sorted. You walk into one of the most beautiful regions in Western Australia and I photograph every moment of it.

This is the Dream Team difference. Photography and complete elopement planning, in one package, for one payment. I pay your celebrant, your florist, your hair artist. You pay me once.

After 300+ elopements across Margaret River and the South West, I know exactly how to make this work. Every permit, every vendor, every golden-hour window.

Ready to just show up and get married?
