DID YOU KNOW? Sydney's SALSA PALLADIUM's inception was due to the love of the history of Salsa & Mambo! To ensure the rich history & influence was shared with dancers today! The New York Palladium Ballroom had a huge role in defining, & pushing the boundaries of MAMBO during the 1940-60s, & so directly influenced what was to become SALSA from the 60's to today!
YES! AWESOME bands like Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez & Machito, among many others played on rotation. Battling each other & pushing the boundaries of Mambo to new & amazing heights. Keeping the atmosphere buzzing with excitement & dance floor PACKED all night! Playing blistering Mambo's, Pachanga's, Cha Cha's & more!
EVERYONE went to the Palladium & dressed sharp & elegant, to fit the slick & sleek vibe of the event! Stars like Marlon Brando, Sammy Davis Jr, Lena Horne & Frank Sinatra were regulars!
MUCH MORE THAN JUST MUSIC & DANCE: The Palladium Ballroom opened their doors to everyone, people of all races & ethnicities came together to enjoy music & dance at a time when segregation was still prevalent. Palladium brought people together from ALL backgrounds & helped to highlight the civil rights movement. It also became a symbol of positive social change & that the power of music & dance can transcend social barriers.
