Wedding planning hack you didn’t know you needed

Names on chairs for your front rows sounds small. It is not small. It’s the difference between a slick, seamless start and 120 people doing an awkward shuffle while your celebrant tries to herd all you together in record time. 

Your front rows are reserved for the people who matter most. Ironically, those people will be everywhere except their seats when it counts. Mum’s fixing something. Dad’s doing a lap. Grandma’s been stopped for photos three times.

this time next week I’ll be at a two day celebrant conference with the and i keep thinking about how it’s just. a whole building of people who chose this weird wonderful job where you hold space for the biggest moment of someone’s life and then go home and make dinner. we’re a specific kind of person. i love us.

anyway, i’m embarrassingly excited. it’s giving school camp vibes.  who will i be seeing?!

Liz was incredible.  
  
From the lead-up to the day she was warm, organised and easy to work with - but what she delivered at the ceremony was next level.  
  
She took the time to gather stories from us and turned it into something genuinely moving and completely personal, and hilarious. It felt amazing, and much more than we could have imagined.  
  
On the day, her delivery was flawless - calm, confident and full of presence. She held the entire room effortlessly. People were laughing, crying, and totally engaged the whole time.  
  
We had so many guests ask who she was, was she our best friend, and say they wanted to use her themselves.  
  
Liz is a standout performer. Book her if you can

happy one year to my two favourite fellow dead parents club members 🖤  
 
one year ago I stood up and told the story that when David’s dad reached the pearly gates, he found Alex’s mum already there. They got chatting… as parents do. Shared a drink. Swapped stories. Realised they both had gay sons, brilliant, stubborn, single…and decided it was time to step in. 
So they came up with a plan. 
And we all know what happened next. 
Because grief, as many of us know, cracks you open. Clears space for what really matters. And sometimes, if your parents are feeling particularly meddlesome, finds you a husband.
