The beautiful thing about Mark and Hannes is the way they bring different perspectives into the world without ever competing for space.

Hannes looks up and notices the trees, the buildings, how things feel. Mark looks down. He notices the detail, the texture, the nuance.

One sees pictures. The other sees numbers.

One plans. One flows.

One notices what’s coming, the other notices what’s here.

And on the rare occasion one of them becomes briefly non-verbal, the other is always ready to step in and keep things moving.

They bring completely different eyes to the world. That difference, that respect for how the other one moves through life, is where they truly see eye to eye.

12 ways to bring someone you’ve lost into your wedding day.

I put this list together because it’s the question I get asked alot, in some form or another...usually through tears and usually preceded with “is it naff, or weird?”

It’s not naff and its not weird. It’s one of the most human things you can do on a day that’s meant to be about love.

My own dad died 4 years ago, so I’ve thought about this list from both sides - as a celebrant, and as someone who knows exactly what it’s like to want somebody there who can’t be.

Consider this a start. Take what feels like them, leave the rest.

Save this for later, or send it to someone who’s planning their day without someone they wish was there.

Wedding planning hack you didn’t know you needed

Names on chairs for your front rows sounds small. It is not small. It’s the difference between a slick, seamless start and 120 people doing an awkward shuffle while your celebrant tries to herd all you together in record time.

Your front rows are reserved for the people who matter most. Ironically, those people will be everywhere except their seats when it counts. Mum’s fixing something. Dad’s doing a lap. Grandma’s been stopped for photos three times.

this time next week I’ll be at a two day celebrant conference with the and i keep thinking about how it’s just. a whole building of people who chose this weird wonderful job where you hold space for the biggest moment of someone’s life and then go home and make dinner. we’re a specific kind of person. i love us.

anyway, i’m embarrassingly excited. it’s giving school camp vibes. who will i be seeing?!
