Before… after! There is still so many things to be finished but what a long way we’ve come. At times it’s felt like it would never end. But if you love gardening and a good before and after, follow along for the journey.

In just a few short weeks, with the onset of some colder nights, the leaucadendrons will begin to change colours. Opening up and changing their form and size completely. I love these during the summer season, but there is something extra special about the colours of winter.

I get so many messages asking how I keep on top of the weeds.

Well, this is generally how.

I try to avoid spraying where possible, so I usually opt to mow or whipper snip them instead. With a large yard, it’s just not practical to hand-weed the whole thing (I do actually have another job 😅), so the mower usually wins.

And this is what happens when you go away for three weeks and it rains the entire time! 🌱😂

It’s not a perfect solution, but regular mowing keeps things under control and stops the weeds from completely taking over.

When to pick your proteas? Here is a perfect example of a beautifully formed flowers versus one that’s finished off. If you’re seeing the finished ones being sold in bunches, these will have a very short base life as well as not looking overly appealing.

This is what happens when you go away for a few weeks, leave your flower farm unattended, and it rains pretty much the whole time…. Weeds galore! But also plenty of flowers!

Iv been a little quiet over the last few weeks, not because there were no flowers available, but because we have been in South America exploring Peru and Brazil.

What an amazing place. Beautiful country side, the incredible wonders of Machu Picchu and stunning beaches. Cocktails weren’t bad either!

But I’m back in full swing now (jet lag still hanging on) and ready for all your flower order this week.
