I was recently playing at a wedding where the dancefloor was in full swing.
Then the music suddenly cut out due to a technical glitch.
I’ve seen this happen a handful of times over the years, both at events I’ve performed at and attended.
What I love about live dhol is that it doesn’t depend on speakers or technology. It has the ability to keep the crowd going, so the dancefloor doesn’t lose its momentum. In this case, the music came back shortly after, and the party hadn’t missed a beat.
Most people think a dholi is there to add to the energy.
I see it differently. Sometimes we’re there to protect it too. 🥁
