September is a bit of a milestone month for many of us who have been celebrants for a long time, with lots of celebrant anniversaries falling
around the 2nd of September. This year I have been a celebrant for 20 years!

Back when the new celebrant authorisation system came in around 2003, there
was a cap on how many new civil celebrants could be authorised each year.

If you didn’t make the cut, you had to wait until the following year and hope your turn came around. September was generally when the new authorisations happened, with many of them falling on 2 September.

Before that, it was even harder to become a celebrant. In many areas, a new celebrant was generally only appointed when an existing one retired, moved away or passed away!
The cap system eventually disappeared in 2008 and those still waiting were authorised, bringing a whole new group of celebrants into this wonderful industry.

So congratulations to all my fellow celebrants celebrating an anniversary this September, and particularly those hitting the big 20 years authorised milestone. 🥂

After all these years, I still absolutely love being part of people’s happiest days. Every couple, every ceremony and every wedding is different,
and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Celebrate the milestones, big and small! ✨

Sometimes a business milestone isn’t a wedding or a birthday. Sometimes it’s the moment your business takes its next big step.

Hi there. Firstly apologies for the last video cutting out most of the picture but I hope you still heard it all

So now I’m in Scotland and went to Gretna Green. This is a very important place in the history of weddings. It’s on the video but basically in 1754 the legislation in England meant that you couldn’t marry until you were 21. In this days that was considered to be already old. But Scotland was more relaxed and in fact boys could marry at 14 and girls at 12! Crazy!

It’s also where they first did hand fasting rituals which is the origin of the phrase “tie the knot “

They still do around 3000 elopements a year!

If you know me, you’ll know this probably comes as no surprise… I’m a passionate Brisbane Lions supporter!

So this year I decided to do something a little different and sponsor one of the players.

After meeting Jarrod Berry last year, I knew exactly who I wanted to support. He’s genuinely one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people you’ll meet. He’s warm, chatty, interested in people and takes the time to connect. Those qualities really stood out to me.

I recently attended the Brisbane Lions sponsors’ function and it was such a fantastic afternoon. Every player was approachable, appreciative of the support they receive and happy to spend time chatting with sponsors and fans.

I also discovered I’m currently Jarrod’s only Queensland-based sponsor, which made me smile! I think there are a few sponsors in Melbourne, but I’m proudly flying the flag for him up here.

Supporting local sport has always been something I believe in. It’s about community, commitment and backing people who represent values you admire.

I’ll always be a Lions fan, but I’ll definitely be continuing to sponsor Bez for as long as he’s wearing the Lions jumper.

He really made my day on Sunday. 🤍

Now… here’s hoping the Lions have another huge season! 🦁
