This isn’t exaggeration: Japan’s whaling program currently authorizes the killing of large numbers of whales each year. Even without the recent expansion to include fin whales, Japanese whalers set quotas in the hundreds for minke, Bryde’s, and sei whales annually. Now the government is adding fin whales, a species considered vulnerable.

These are not distant numbers; they represent real, sentient whales ripped from the ocean. Every quota stands for a life cut short, a family devastated, and a species pushed closer to the brink. Whales are critical to healthy oceans, and killing them for meat or tradition flies in the face of science and conservation.

We are demanding that Japan and the international community halt these cruel hunts and protect whales instead of hunting them into extinction.

Today’s Voice of the Child post comes from a 13-year-old girl — exploring what emotional regulation really feels like at this age.

We’ll be sharing separate versions for boys and girls, because by early adolescence, emotional regulation starts to look and feel different.
Hormonal changes, brain development, and social pressures all shape how young people experience and express big feelings.

The girl’s voice is here this morning — the boy’s perspective will follow later today.
Both remind us that behind every reaction is a child learning how to feel safe with their emotions.
