💜🩷 Introducing Event Manager Kate Chetwin 🧡💛
👉 How many years’ experience do you have in the event management space?
While I have professionally been working in the events industry space since June 2013, my interest and experience in events goes back further than that. I started working with Seniors Recreation Council of WA in my final semester of university, but I was involved in organising and delivering events throughout university and during my gap year as well.
👉 You help deliver Have a Go Day for the Seniors Recreation Council of WA. Why?
Have a Go Day is an event that I hold very close to my heart. It’s the flagship event for SRCWA and takes place annually, attracting more than 15,000 people to Burswood Park with more than 200 site holders. I finished working with SRCWA in 2017 but have continued to volunteer with them annually across the three days maintaining that connection.
👉 How will the skills you gained through this help with purpose.ground?
This experience has been fundamental in shaping me as an event manager. It taught me how to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, from senior volunteers and community groups through to sponsors, partners and government agencies. I have developed strong experience delivering professional conferences and corporate-style events through Rural Health West. I can bring different perspectives to the table and adapt the approach depending on what the client and their event actually needs.
👉How do you manage logistics, large crowds, stakeholder management (all the behind-the-scenes stuff)?
The event software we use, EventsAir, has made the process more efficient. We can tailor everything to what we need: conference management, award nominations, abstract submissions, sponsorship. It’s not just an online registration site. EventsAir is embedded here, having been used since 2017. Meaning we have extensive knowledge and expansive expertise.
👉Why is it important to build a relationship with clients?
It comes down to trust. The better relationship you have with a client, the better you understand what they want to achieve, rather than simply delivering what’s written in a brief. Events can change quickly, and there are always decisions that need to be made, so having a strong relationship means you can have open conversations and work through challenges together.
